MadManMike
Picking my car up tomorrow! Fingers crossed there's no further incidents for a while... Can't afford another £650 bill!
RobinJI
Good stuff (both of you!) Jake, I can't remember, is the Caddy a diesel or petrol? I'm going to be having a massive clearout of car stuff in the next few months and I've got a load of 8v scirocco bits that are not use on the 20v. Might be some useful stuff in there if yours is a petrol. (I know for sure I've got a fully reconditioned head and a 5 speed diesel box lying around, among other stuff.) I might be going to look at my old MX-5 on Saturday, with the view to leaving a deposit then paying the rest and collecting/MOTing it at the end of march. Getting quite excited Also, I got the link for the photos my colleague took at the rally: Link to the full album with other cars. CurtisRider
Fixed the exhaust, turns out there's supposed to be some sort of centre exhaust support but there isn't...used a jubilee clip for now to support it until I next go home and can bosh something decent together. The welder is shit, there's no question about it! I can do some neat welds with it but it is bloody difficult as it randomly changes wire feed speed.... also we only have co2 bottles, not argon which doesn't help weld quality

CurtisRider
CO2 is shite against argon. so much weld spatter! The welder isn't mine, it's my schools. I have my own rather lovely welder but it's back in Suffolk For the amount of time the school one gets used per year (about 10 minutes actual welding time) it isn't worth spending any money on (nor do we have the money spare in our department), it's so cheap that it is pretty much disposable anyway. Pure argon isn't much cop in mig, co2mix is way better. Personally I'd give it a clean, check the liner and wheels, there only pennies. But if its not worth it, its not worth it Not trying to start a welding war bud.
Sam T
Ok guys I'm after some help on modifying my top mount. Id like to go lower on my car but the coil overs are all the way down. I've bought a new top mount to toy around with the idea of basically making it slimmer, therefore bringing the whole strut closer to the vehicles body. It's this top mount : Thanks in advance to anyone that can help
CurtisRider
Cant you go for a solid top mount with a pillowball bearing?
N.Wood
In general, and speaking about 2005+ VAG diesel estates, better to go older with less miles or newer with more miles? Whats likely to last the longest with minimal maintenance?
Sam T
Cant you go for a solid top mount with a pillowball bearing? I can't find any for my car though! Tom Booth
In general, and speaking about 2005+ VAG diesel estates, better to go older with less miles or newer with more miles? Whats likely to last the longest with minimal maintenance? I bought my 07 passat as a one owner from new, 150000miles ex rep mobile, had a full vw history with bills for well over £8/9000 pound and it's been fantastic. Flew through its mot last week with no advisories. If you can find a well serviced and documented high mileage car you get a hell of a lot for your money, especially as it's already list most of its value so hopefully resale shouldn't be such a shock. N.Wood
Cool, yeah I have an octavia that I bought on 92k miles and it's now on 170k and its still pretty faultless although now getting a bit long in the tooth (an 03) and little electrical issues are starting to arise. Wanted to keep an eye on a car for the future, looking at: Octavia estate Passat estate Seat Exeo estate Superb estate A4 / A6 estate All in some sort of diesel, the quicker the better for around £5 - 7k. Tom Booth
You'll get a hell of a lot for your money, if you aim around 9/10 reg before vag face lifted most of their cars you'll find a gem.
Pashley26
f**king insane. Pet took this picture of me in his hunting lodge after crashing his friends Ford Focus on Lake Antilla, because my excuse was that a bear jumped out in front of me. Which is exactly what Ken Block said when he wrote off his Fiesta in the Antilla lake and had the same picture taken. Such a legend. Got to drive what is basically a leg of the Swedish Rally through, as well as take a 180bhp Yamaha R1 engined Snowmobile on a stretch of Autotest. I will do a proper write up tomorrow, show you lads what I have been up to. - Glad you and Ben are getting on well Robin, Ashtray seems to be performing well! *gentlydoesit
That pretty much I've staired at that blow up and he's right, nothing you can do as thi spring can't go higher... Options 1 I'm guessing its totally differnt to a 9n? If its not miles away, modify a pillowball from one of those 2 abandon the rubber doughnut and make a 3-4mm stainless washer the same size then get a 5-6mm poly doughnut and bond on to it, probably gain a few mm at best 3 modify the shock tower. Sorry dude

Can anyone recommend decent tyres in 235/30/17 and also 225/30/17?
