dann2707
I fitted some meyles HD drop links for the front arbs as mine looked a little past their best, and when removing them this confirmed that, the balls just moved so freely in their sockets with no resistance what so ever. Yet to go for a drive though. These are them! Old rusty things. I discovered some delicious CV boot grease that's new, looks like it's split the boot when i've been testing out the RARB haha Comparison of the two. The new ball + socket are so so stiff! And new ones all on. Took about 30 mins all in all!

RobinJI
Passat has developed a boot opening issue The boot won't open if I use the release button on the actual boot. The release switch on the drivers door works (Although it only releases the boot half open so it is not possible to pull it open). The only way I can open the boot is by using the button on the key fob or by using the key in the keyhole on the boot lid. The boot worked as normal this morning but after driving 10 miles the problem started and the button has not worked since. The rubber covering on the release appears to have split and it has been pissing it down for weeks so I suspect water has made its way inside and broken the button. Although this is car electrics so it probably won't be as simple as that! Has anyone else had to fix a similar issue? This must be an identical locking system that is used on various VAG vehicles. I'm pretty sure I remember a local mate having this same issue with his B5.5. It was a little while back, but if I remember right it's down to a tiny plastic link in the handle that's really fragile. A bit of a bugger to replace apparently, but not expensive parts wise.

Mine isn't a handle, it's a rectangular rubber button hidden where the registration plate lights are. I think it's part number 3B9827566B and looks like this:
RobinJI
Ah, well I may be remembering wrong then. I know they're not a true handle, I was just using the wrong word, but it looks like there's no links there. He definitely had the boot button/handle-thing break on his B5.5 though, I'll see if it sounds similar to yours. Boumsong
Problem. Right, if I leave the car overnight the battery drains to 10v according to the gauge, never less. And the battery light comes on which to my mind supports the gauge. This makes starting a little awkward but not impossible. After 5 - 8 minutes of driving, and the gauge reading 10v and the battery light being on, it fixes itself. The gages jumps, almost instantly, up to 13v with no other electrics being on or between 11.5v and 12.5v if I have lights, stereo, blowers etc. Normal. I'm curious about the drain and potential causes. Any ideas?

Pete.M
Woohoo, someone failed even more than me! Seriously though, that really sucks. Porsche time? I've been working on mine almost every day over the past week and have only succeeded in making it worse. So I'm gonna chuck it in a garage and hope for the best. JDâ„¢
If I get the Porsche now I'll also not make it to my wedding day... So it's gonna go in the garage tomorrow and I'll have to stomach it!
Mark W
Once you get past 10 points do you get a complimentary jerry-can of petrol and a lighter?
JDâ„¢
Just a rag to stick in the filler, and some flint. I think it's 15 for the jerry can. Damn.

dann2707
Finally got my dash cam in the house to see what the footage looks like Youtube has raped the quality, looks amazing on my screen in 1080p! Also thought i'd properly show the rain repellent working, should last another 11 months yay! Not having to use the wipers is incrediballs. Got absolutely no idea why there is 10 secondsish between the first and the second clip

And I strongly recommend you buy it I don't have to de-ice the car anymore, just simply wipe off water droplets on a morning whilst my parents are scraping ice off of theirs hehe
weirdoku
Does that shit work on helmet visors?
dann2707
I'm not sure! It has a tendency to just retain the droplets on the screen if you're below around 40mph so does require wiping with the wipers now and again. Makes cleaning it effortless too as nothing sticks to it haha I sound like Jardo, but this isn't a gimmick. Actually improves shit.
