Pashley26
I keep looking at Cooper S's.
Tom Booth
Can't fault you, my missus has a 1.4 One with a few goodies on. Obviously it's not a rocket ship and handles ok'ish but it's still nice to drive and pretty fun.
Pashley26
Girlfriend's sister has one and a couple of my mates, nice little cars. I want to buy a house next year, and selling the Audi for 6 and buying a Mini for 4 would give me a good boost up.
CurtisRider
Just test drove a B8 A4 for my parents, pretty nice machine! The 2l tdi engines are so boring though, really disappointed that they aren't lively in the slightest, seems to be the general consensus with others I have spoken to aswell. Greetings
Really excited, taking the M3 out tonight, will be driving on unpaved roads in the woods. Still got the spotlights on, managed to source 2 pairs of tyres, one is really good the other one is rather bad (old winter tyres). Everyone tells me to put the better ones on the rear, not quite sure about that. Would prefer to stop quickly than accelerate better and understeer constantly. Will hopefully post a video tomorrow if everything goes well. Rather worried that what my friend considers smooth will turn out to be pretty bumpy for a car set up for tarmac. Luke Rainbird
£1200 1.8t and a little for mods, pocket the extra for a deposit and win all round
Haz
This is Jardo. 'Little for mods' would end up being the entire deposit...
Pete.M
Not sure if anyone was bothering with that mpg test thing, but after a whole tank of driving extremely economically I've only managed 24.1mpg. Works out at about £85 for three weeks worth. Could be worse I guess.
AdamR28
I did it - most of a tank, managed 26mpg haha
JDâ„¢
Can't fault the Mini's for driving fun. Hayley has a 1.6 One with plenty of extras and it's great fun to drive, because you have to be going as fast as it'll go to have some fun. I love driving it every now and again
dann2707
I completely forgot haha sorry
RobinJI
Yeah, forgot to do the whole tank thing, mostly because of being very sort of cash recently. Trip computer says I'd been averaging 35mpg until this week though, this week it's managed 25, something's up there Going to have a look for boost leaks tomorrow, hopefully I won't have to do the whole 'which sensor's dead' saga. CurtisRider
I've always thought my cabin was rather noisy and figured it was just a trait of the car. Today for some reason I pushed down on my gear gaitor and noticed the cabin noise reduced hugely! Turns out there a a rubber gaitor under the leather one and it wasn't sitting in its proper location and was also falling apart. Some duct tape later and it's far better I have also fitted some fresh top mounts as mine were pretty tired, unfortunately this means my front end has raised a little bit as my old ones were rather compressed. I'm rather tempted to chop a coil from some spare springs to see what it's like, might buy some lowering springs/coil overs if I like it
Pete.M
Does that mean it was still doing about 35mpg with your broken downpipe? Or is that the reason for the drop? How did you patch it up by the way?
CurtisRider
Does a broken dp/manifold affect mpg that much? I've just done my manifold gaskets after a leak but haven't really done enough miles to find out if it's made a difference apart from noise
Luke Rainbird
Trip computer states around 28.6mpg over around 2.5 tanks which I'm confident is a little optimistic. Will check receipts when I can find them
RobinJI
Does that mean it was still doing about 35mpg with your broken downpipe? Or is that the reason for the drop? How did you patch it up by the way? All sorted now, I welded the crap out of it, then spent bloody ages with a grinder and a pane of glass getting it flat enough to seal up. Added another exhaust hanger on the center section while it was in the air too, to reduce the weight/load on the flange, as well as tweaking it to give a touch more clearance to the steering rack to help prevent the same from happening again. While it was up on the ramp I adjusted the steering rack (the new one had settled in causing ~5mm of play at the steering-wheel) and finally got around to fitting the poly-bushes to my rear beam. So some good came from it in the end, car feels lovely and tight now. Lower strut brace is next on the list handling wise along with modifying the top mounts when I get a chance. Does a broken dp/manifold affect mpg that much? I've just done my manifold gaskets after a leak but haven't really done enough miles to find out if it's made a difference apart from noise A blowing manifold/downpipe could potentially effect fuel consumption if it's before the lambda sensor, as it could cause the engine to think it's running lean and chuck in more fuel, on yours it won't anyway, but I guess a drop in torque from a lack of back pressure could cause a bit worse economy. Mine wasn't really a blow so much as not really being attached anymore, the flange was in 3 bits, with only about 1" of it still attached to the pipe. The down-pipe's all sorted now, but the car doesn't feel quite right, and hadn't done for little bit even before smacking it into the ground. I'll have a play and see if I can get it any better, but I suspect it may be time to finally wire in the OBD port and give it a scan. MadManMike
So, just got back from Hastings, where I test drove the TDI FR Leon (55 plate). I don't have a list of mods, but it's definitely not standard - it absolutely flies from 10 to 50 in 2nd gear. Externally it looks a little sheddy, scuffs and dents on most panels. Had it hooked up to diagnostics and there's no faults logged at all. Needs a new Aux belt but mechanically it all looks sound. Had a new turbo fitted about 10k ago. For £2k I certainly can't grumble! Now to sell mine and get back to Hastings and pick it up
Pashley26
In terms of fuel I brimmed mine, £81, reset the computers on the 19th (pay day) I have done 372 miles, averaged 52.3mpg and have just over half a tank left. - I need to do something car wise, the diesel is soul destroying and it is an expensive luxury I cannot justify. A £3/4K track prepped 172 would also qualify. Or a 182 Trophy.

Drove it until it had 0 miles showing on the gauge, did 526 miles, which is a true 60.88mpg. Just goes to show how far out the manufacturers claims are, they claim over 75mpg for mine. All you lot with vag cars, work out your true mpg based on your driving, not what the computer says

bing
Yeah I know, but a mechanic friend who's a ford specialist told me not to take it below 10 miles as it will surge the ad blue filter which keeps it clean. Apparently they are a right twat to sort out once they are shagged
dann2707
Yeah probably not the best thing to do. Have you cleaned out the EGR on it yet?
