dann2707
Fixed my wheel bearing noise. Filmed how notchy the old one was, shocking! I keep forgetting my phone films like that so it's in portrait sorry / not that sorry! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qCGcGUE3sk Also taken some pics of the intercooler fitted, nice and subtle. Car seems to pull a bit better with it on but nothing crazily noticeable, should deffo see improvements when it comes to hybrid turb and mapping though
haydon_peter
The Passat has a fresh MOT! They also serviced it and investigated the coolant leak, the radiator was leaking from one of the corners so they put some radiator sealant in and they sounded confident this will do the job. The car has done 108,000 miles so they advised the cam belt is due to be changed fairly soon, the problem is they also discovered that the water pump is not working at all and they expect it wasn't changed when the cam belt was done at 65,000 miles. Annoying. List of MOT advisories to keep Mr Inur entertained: Front exhaust has minor leak of exhaust gases Nearside rear tyre worn close to the legal limit Rear brake pads wearing thin Front wipers noisy on screen Headlamp lenses cloudy Near side front seatbelt is slow to retract
Boumsong
Thats got to be a joke?? Front wipers noisy on screen
haydon_peter
On the main invoice they have noted 'Wiper blades average', the advisory on the MOT is 'Front wipers noisy on screen'

CurtisRider
Eurgh, cars being shit again. Time to build a fuel pressure tester thingy and diagnose the shit out of it

Luke Rainbird
Tyre split on the Leon last night due to a chunk of metal in the road. Luckily I was around 100 yards from Soph's at the time so after checking it all out was able to get it out of harm's way with relative ease and have pinched her Golf for now (she won't be driving it any time soon as she broke her hand last week). Given that the tyre was only put on there a month ago I'm far from pleased, but I guess it gives me a good enough excuse to look at changing the CHs for something else! Quite fancy something 17" rather than the current 18"s for a little extra comfort in the lanes around home, but will see what comes up for reasonable money. If I can track down a part-ex (particularly locally) it could be a winner I suppose.
Prawny Baby
I have the 17'' black TT rims that jardo ran on his car for a while, open to swaps for your CH's mine are genuine too, not reps
haydon_peter
Ticcy that's pretty shit! if the water pump isn't working at all you shouldnt be driving it! Hmm The garage said I will get away with it at the moment because of the cold weather but need to get it done along with the cam belt soonish (Cam was done at 65,000 miles in 2010, you would assume a main dealer would change the water pump at the same time!). They are a decent garage so I doubt they are bullshitting me about the water pump. The annoying thing is I have no idea when it stopped working, for all I know it hasn't been working the entire time I have owned the car. I guess it's an bitch of a job but how easy is it to replace the cam belt and water pump, would it be something we could do ourselves or is it not worth the hassle? I don't really fancy paying garage price to get it changed (About £300), especially after just paying for the service and MOT. The tax is also due at the end of the month, then if the leak in the radiator doesn't seal that is more money to shell out fixing that. I hate cars
Luke Rainbird
If they were a set of S3s (reps or otherwise) then I may have been interested - TT rims have always been a little too bland for my liking really. Going to have a scan of the Facebook groups in a mo and see what's about - There've been a couple of sets of the FR 17" LCR style wheels going cheap semi-recently which could be an option, though I suspect they're all sold by now. Otherwise maybe something similar to those white Rotas you had on for BTCC mode perhaps. That said, it's all about the OEM+ really so who knows! haydon_peter
They said it's not ideal but convection will cause a certain amount of circulation around the system which isn't as risky in the winter. What you have said makes sense though, I guess it will always get to a point where everything is hot and it causes overheating issues that might not be noticeable on the temperature gauge. I will have to spend out more money and get the work done when I get paid then
MadManMike
I've posted this here before but I don't think I got any suggestions, I've just posted in a couple of groups on FB so thought it might be worth a copy and paste into here too... Strange central locking problem on my 2003 Leon, can anyone help? The front passenger door sometimes unlocks when I unlock the car, but most of the time stays locked. I can manually open the door, but it will never lock.I've tried a couple of lock mechanisms and they do the same thing. You can hear it try to unlock, but for whatever reason it seems to struggle. Is it likely to be faulty wiring? Anything else I can check?I've searched groups and forums and I've found similar problems but not exactly the same...Any help much appreciated guys, I want to sell my car soon and need to get the door working properly! george_seamons
Cambelt/water pump is piss easy Tic. Drop the bumper into service mode, and it's all there in front of you. I did my mums in a couple of hours. Buy the correct locking pins, and you will struggle to mess it up to be fair! Rbizzle, swap for my LCR's? Luke Rainbird
Potentially - these are all a little kerbed and you'd be wanting 2 new tyres ideally though. Can't remember what sort of rubber life you said yours had left but let me know if that's not enough to put you off With a refurb and some fresh tyres they'd be ideal really, I just can't really justify doing it when the car will be coming off the road in a couple of months for the best part of a year! george_seamons
Hmmmmm...not quite as tempted as I was, haha! I guess logistically it would be a bit difficult too
haydon_peter
Easy for you maybe. I have limited tools and don't have anywhere to get the car off road. Plus my car mechanic skills stretch as far as checking oil/water levels, changing MAF/Coolant sensors/Air filters, changing wheels and checking tyre pressures
george_seamons
You really don't need much to change it. A socket set is literally all you need. As far as cambelts go, it really is as easy as they get. No messing about taking engine mounts off or anything. I think the belt and pump were about £80. CurtisRider
Found bits of metal in my oil today. f**ksake That along with the leakiest engine ever is really starting to piss me off. There's a 924 down the road from me that I have been offered for £250, it has brand new Corbeau buckets and a bunch of parts that I could do with, I think i'll have to buy it and do a weekend engine swap. Wish I was in Suffolk, I'd have a nice workshop and an engine crane, now I have a shit wonky drive and I'll have to buy a crane.
RobinJI
Go on then, what (massively overheated beast) have you replaced the AX with then? For that matter, what the hell happened to the AX? I remember seeing a photo of it looking massively caved in but no explanation/discussion.

I know that feeling, and its precisely why I'm also searching for an engine. If your Porsche is built like my volvo, it might keep running for a while yet!
