The Car Thread

I'm not reallllly sure how it works to be honest, would have to ask my Dad later. But what have they done to make it go back out of alignment? I've got all the tools but not the tracking equipment etc.

Can't I just turn the track rod nut half a thread on one side and do the same to the other side?

Its only one wheel out, but wich one? Is it toing in or out? It can't be both pointing left as the castor would make them point straight but put the wheel pist. I've seen home mechanics get it close but to me a propper alignment is cheaper than tyres in the long run. If you can remove the seized parts, put a new set on (measuring the same length as the old, with the thread half way. ) and get it tracked

*I've noticed some cars factory tollerances mean they do pull to the curb??????

Dan - You won't be able to get it right without the equipment. You could get it driving straight, but the wheels could be set toe in/out which would mess up your tyre wear.
I did the alignment on my girlfriend's car the other week, same as yours but a boring petrol version, and it was seized! So I had to heat up the locking nuts, clean up the thread, and then wound the arm out and copper greased everything. If you have a blowtorch or something then you could do that yourself, then take it back down to the guys to adjust it back. Doubt they'll have a problem then!

Do you know what type of alignment equipment they have? We have a Hunter at work which is computerized and stupidly accurate! The older Supertracker stuff isn't that great, if they have the old stuff then that could be the problem as it's not measuring the rear axle to see if it's all square.

Thanks for the replies! Ermm it looks like an older system, using red lasers lining up to the rear wheels where they hang a piece of metal over the wheels with numbers on to see where it lines up. Hope that makes sense! Isn't the hunter system as I only paid £27.

Yep your right about the siezed thing, they said they had to get the oxy acet on it to free it up to move it. I'm taking it back today after Uni, 4th time lucky! If they can't do it i'm going to get it done at a hunter equipped garage, found one near me but its £54+vat :(

Took my car back, watched them track it perfectly. Everything is bang on but it still pulls to the left now. Really frustrating as it was okay before sort of in terms of pulling!

They did notice it sits way low at the front and said it looks like the springs have been cut. Also the shock absorber is leaking.

Haha! That's brilliant. Was it during a stage or is he just very safety conscious?

Haha he is ridiculously safety conscious :P But this was on a rally between stages. Turns out that this was done for fun by the Police, they didn't give out any fines for speeding and most drivers knew about this beforehand.

I will be doing a fairly boring write up on AngelWax Dark Angel over the weekend. I have been heart breakingly not washing my car for a week to try and do a real life actual test on the stuff.

It's amazing! Anybody with a black car who is looking for a show wax with real world durability, this is certainly for you!

It would appear so, what's the issue?

can see where Mikes coming from. 'real world durability' is such a vaigue phrase. does it protect from tress/plants if your driving down back lanes/tight roads? stone chips from motorway driving?

Both cases can clearly be defined as 'real world situations' but a wax isnt gunna protect your car in those scenarios
