Skoze
Haha, that's funny. Does it rev to about 2k or something? Nope, 2 litre petrol so revs quite nicely so i'm told! Still waiting to have a go...
RobinJI
Oh yeah, I meant to say, Paul, those impreza seats are really nice in my experience, reading your post where you mentioned the sport line evo, I looked them up and imediately thought 'he want's impreza seats' before even seeing your next sentence. Skoze, the nature of the relationship between power and torque means that either it runs out of puff and the torque curve takes a plummet around 2k, or those figures are wrong (I cant imagine 4x4s being easy to dyno accurately). Awesome landy though! Edited October 18, 2013 by RobinJI
george_seamons
I'm keeping the A3, I just got this so I can have a track car and a daily. And then on Facebook "Unless somebody puts two grand in my hand between now and Sunday I'm taking it to Castle Combe on Sunday morning where it will be going to a friend of mine" ...you sure about that? Pashley26
And then on Facebook "Unless somebody puts two grand in my hand between now and Sunday I'm taking it to Castle Combe on Sunday morning where it will be going to a friend of mine" ...you sure about that? Jamie Currie is buying it! I'd rather give it to him than see some scrote driving it around; he wants a track car and he lives three seconds from Castle Combe. Prawny Baby
105bhp and 450 lbft torque - not bad for an engine that's almost 60.Interesting, Something not right there! To have 105hp, the LATEST it could be making 450lbft would be 1225 RPM.Even if it were making that torque at 2000rpm, that'd equate to 128bhp.Still, very cool, just odd figures that don't quite work out. george_seamons
Busy at work then Nick?! In car related news, my “need to buy" list for the hybrid install has shrunk considerably. I've now got everything bar water meth injection. Getting excited now! Car is making nearly as much power now as it ever did, and that's just on actuator pressure on the hybrid turbo. Order the alloy pipework for the new intercooler routing, and due to an incompetant packing monkey, I have received 2x 90* bends and 1 45* bend, when I actually asked for 1x 90* and 2x 45*. They are sorting their error, and they dont want the extra 90* bend back, so I am an extra one of them up...which I think I will actually end up needing. Winner! Luke Rainbird
Dyno lottery? Something weird going on with measured and calculated figures perhaps.
Prawny Baby
I'd bet the 450 is Nm instead of Lbft, that'd bring the potential RPM up to a whopping 1661
AdamR28
Might be a typo, meant to say 405 rather than 105?

RobinJI
You can really see the supercharger from that angle Hu? You can, it's the thing with the pipe welded to the plate bolted to it. Not sure what angle would have given a better view, there's an engine on one side of it and a filter on the other. Yeah, what Nick's saying's what I was getting at with the relationship between power and torque, I just couldn't be arsed to do the maths
Greetings
Finished preparing for the final round of BMW Challenge. I'm already nervous as f**k. It's going to be one hell of a competition, definitely the most important and challenging one in my "career". I'd like to think it'll all go well since I've been undefeated on this track in RWD class for almost a year now but stress makes you do silly things. Plus last years' champion is taking part to help his teammate win the season and he's one hell of a good driver. I treat him almost as a legend - the first time I ever took notice of him was during a rainy comp - he arrived in a completely stock M3 sedan and took 3rd place overall, behind two Evos. That can happen but amazingly he was only 5 seconds behind the winner on a total of 20 minutes. And that was in the rain where Evos with their fancy diffs have a huge advantage. The closest I've ever come to one of those two cars was 20 seconds. 1st or 2nd place gives me the championship so long as I'm quicker than the fellow competitor who's currently 1st. The car is almost as ready as it will be, in terms of tyres I'm prepared for absolutely anything. Fingers crossed.... Greetings
Didn't manage it unfortunately. Due to certain circumstances I was fighting for 3 championships today which is a once in a lifetime situation. Took second place in all of them. And the thing that hurts most of all (I actually got really emotional and had to quiet down for an hour in solitude) was that I lost all the championships by 200 milliseconds. On the plus side (if there is one) my last run was possibly the best driving I've done in my life. I went out with the attitude that if write the car off then so be it, I had nothing to lose and 3 seconds to make up which on a 3 minute stage is nigh on impossible. I improved my personal best by 6 seconds, managed to make up 2.8 seconds while dragging a bumper underneath the car for at least 200 metres. That bumper cost me the championship, but the same would go for a locked up handbrake or the fact that the chap who won had to repeat his first run after the circuit had dried off a bit because one of the marshals forgot to time him. So yeah, that would be it. I'll post an on board from the last run in the evening.
Azarathal
Mate that must suck so hard, bit unfair he got to retake his run but nothing to be done about it. I'd be happy enough knowing I'd given it my all and smashed my previous record so fair play to you!
isitafox
Looking at trading in our sharabang of a Ford in the next couple of months for a 05- Passat Estate 1.9/2.0 TDi, is there anything in particular I should be looking out for and what kind of mileage should I aim for with about £4000-5000? CurtisRider
There was one on Nottingham gumtree the other day along with injectors and stuff http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/garret-gt1749vb-golf-19-gttdi-150bhp-turbo/1033873831 http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/golf-19-gttdi-150bhp-pd-injectors/1033873021 Prices are high but then there's a good chance they haven't sold and you could bang him down Edited October 20, 2013 by CurtisRider
Tom Booth
Go for the 1.9 Dave. The 2.0 may get the better power but there no where near as reliable as a well serviced dinosaur 1.9. If you do look for one just check its had regular oil changes, cam belt and hopefully the clutch done for you. Mine was an ex company car so went back to vw for all its services. There's an invoice in the history for £2400for a new clutch supplied and fitted! It's a fantastic car thou. Have you looked at Octavias too? Same car really but you can get abit more for your money with them.
Pashley26
Not had it long I know, but I really like my 2.0 140, so much more refined than the old 1.9 shit used to be. It's still a shit diesel, but I quite enjoy driving it. Things to look out for are whistling turbos and rattly flywheels. Flywheel rattle is just an annoyance and will probably last forever. Whistly turbos mean replacement and the probability that the service interval has been shit. - I followed Prawn to my dads last night to lay the slayer up I felt so sad seeing it on the road, it looks and sounds so awesome popping and hissing away. Fully huge massive clean required today, so expect many pictures. Edited October 20, 2013 by Pashley26
