The Car Thread

I guess I was a little harsh there - anywhere you can pedal your car flat out is going to be fun, but I wish they hadn't made both the chicanes virtually identical, I keep forgetting which bit of the lap we're at when watching the vids, haha.

Indeed they do! Guess other tracks (apart from Croft) aren't like that so it's not an issue really...

"I kept up with the fastest Subaru Impreza to ever lap the Nurbugring, it was a different driver but I'll have that"

Made my day that did!

Clearly, it wasn't Freddy driving the car at the time, but it was the guy who'd been driving it all day as part of the Forge Demo crew, so he couldn't have been THAT bad?

Turns out my DMF on the Derv is absolutely wrecked so this is getting fitted Wednesday.

Single mass flywheel conversion to a diesel, i've heard they're incredibly noisy on idle until the clutch is dipped so that won't be too fun but at least i'll have the comfort in knowing it's not going to deteriorate after a few k's!

Clutch and flywheel is costing £400 overall including fitting

Dear Dr. Marshal, I apologise in advance for an upset the following post may cause

So, BTCC from Rockingham yesterday. I had a lie in and watched Race 1, then got inspired, and decided to go and play pretend touring cars myself.

Before:

Testing fitting the BTCC Super2000 slicks in preperation for Spa:

I have to say, I really rather like this look:

And time to swap back :(

I look forward to seeing how these work :)

Just changed my injector seals, they were so hard and brittle that they fell apart once I tried to remove them! I used the claw hammer method, worked well! Engine ticks over at a slower pace now and far more smoothly :) Just the new inlet pipe to get off Porsche when it arrives and the car should run properly again...

Sounds like your car is too stiff, more body roll = less weight transfer to the outside wheel (therefore more weight on the inside wheel). I can see what you mean, I haven't experienced ABS properly on track though so probably can't comment... Seems like it would feel very odd just mashing the pedal in every braking zone though.

It does feel a bit like cheating :P Definitely less skill involved than without ABS.

With regards to stiffness, I can see where you're coming from. Definitely going to re-set the ARB's to a soft setting for the next comp which is apparently incredibly bumpy. However, this makes weight transfer between corners a bit more difficult to control.

At the end of the day though the problem is not in the stiffness but the centre of gravity being too high up :(

I've recently bought a new set of wheels/ tyres for my Scirocco, however the tyres on the the new wheels rub on the arch when turning so I was wondering if I could just switch the tyres from the old set of wheels to the new ones?

The old tyre/ wheel combination is: 185/60 R14 and the newer set is: 195/65 R14, would the extra width be a problem?

Are the new wheels VW ones or aftermarket? It's more than likely the '65' part that's the issue rather than the width. The 65 means the height of the tyre's 65% of the width, so 127mm, while your old tyres were only 111mm heigh (60% of 185mm). But yeah, you should just be able to get the old tyres put on the new wheels, which will solve the issue if the new wheels are VW ones. If they're aftermarket it'll depend on the wheels width and offset as to what you can get away with.

So found an mr2 for sale only 15mins away from home, £800, grey import with no rust or corrosion and only 73k miles (in km's though) recent tax and mot. Only downsides are I won't be able to drive it until I put the insurance on a credit card I still need to apply for, absolutely horrible aftermarket alloys (gunna get some oems when I have the money) and a white racing stripe down the middle (it's vinyl so is it a case of peel off and t-cut to bring the paint back?)

Can't wait to view it tomorrow and possibly drive it home third party. Can anyone recommend a 0% for 12months credit card for a 20 year old?
