CurtisRider
Repairing vs replacing the seat= more hassle! Standard Leon seats are cheap enough to buy, might as well get some rather than fixing yours
MadManMike
Yeah, the only problem with replacing parts is how much time it wastes and how much stress it causes. Take my window for instance, I had the door apart 3 or 4 times with various kits, countless hours wasted just trying to replace a shitty wire mechanism to open and close my window. All I can think about when considering changing seats is rounded bolts, broken mounts... Unlike the window, if I can't get the seat to work properly I can't drive it and therefore can't get to work. I've tried the whole car modding / maintenance thing and frankly it drives me insane. That said, I would like a nice set of seats - just cba fitting them. AdamR28
A seat is 4 bolts (and maybe a couple of clips if you have airbags / pre-tensioners) - can change a seat in 10 mins once you've done it before.
MadManMike
Yeah it always sounds easy. Pop off the door card, undo 6 bolts and swap the parts over they said. It'll be easy they said... I might look for some bargain seats then...
CurtisRider
Sounds like you probably need to make some car friends with a little guidance you will soon be curing those problems easily!
MadManMike
I had car friends back in Hastings, now I'm fending for myself out here in Bristol! I get the job done, but ten times slower than those with mechanical minds... Any suggestions on seats I should be looking for? I guess MK4 Golf GTI, Cupra R, Octy VRs? CurtisRider
Yup, anything based on the same platform is the same fitment i believe
RobinJI
Yup, anything based on the same platform is the same fitment i believe I don't know for sure on the mk4 platform, but be careful of rear seats from saloon/estate variations. Often estates will have wider rear seats, and saloons won't have structural back-rests, guessing TT's will be a no-go too, due to tiny rear seats and much lower fronts. But yeah, otherwise any of the Mk4 platform stuff. Greetings, as Adam says, which side's which on that picture above? If the left's the inside edge (as this comment suggests: "Would increasing pressures not make the inside wear a bit more? Because I must avoid that based on the pic below.") then you want more pressure and less camber. Camber values from the car the tyres came off might not necessarily be able to be followed, as different suspension designs and weights/distributions will give different characteristics. If they're off a 911 originally then at a guess I'd expect you to want similar front camber to them, but less out back. (An e36 has more aggressive camber increase through bump travel than a 911). MadManMike
I'm only going to replace the fronts
Greetings
Greetings, as Adam says, which side's which on that picture above? The outside is the badly worn bit so to the left of the pic.The inside edge is to the right. Maximum wear is on the outside and minimum in the centre. I don't know what cars these come off but I have a feeling they're touring cars. Not 911's, those run Michelins if I'm not mistaken. Way too hot On the photo above, the left hand side of the screen is the outside edge of the tyre, is that correct? 2 bar hot sounds fairly low, I'm running about 1.5bar on a 700kg (with occupants etc) car with 'soft sidewall' tyres and just over 2 bar on 970kg with Federals. Guessing your car is nearer 1300kg? Seems weird that the temp spread is even at only 2 bar Guess the tyres are really low profile? You're making rather accurate guesses today The tyre profile can be seen in the pic to the right (sort of). They're 640's on 18" wheels. It's similar in profile to a 255/35R18. I wouldn't call them very low profile but they don't have a high profile either
CurtisRider
Nice work Hermes, that was a 7 foot gate that you managed to throw my parcel over containing 2 windows... thank feck I only wanted the seals!

RobinJI
I can't help note the irony that if they've managed to leave a parcel in your 'secure front porch', it's probably not what I'd call secure. What a crock of shit, I'd be phoning up to complain even if you're not arsed about actually claiming, that's not them being unfortunate, that's them being lazy, incompetent and stupid. Greetings, Ignore me then! I thought you'd said something about 911's. Basically, do what adam's said!
CurtisRider
I'm just waiting to hear back from the guy I bought them off, hopefully he will sort it, if not i'm not massively fussed. I fitted the new seals tonight, it's amazing how much better the car looks with such a subtle difference! The old ones were really rotten. I also frenched my driving/side lights, rather like how that looks and it also covers up that the lamps don't match

JDâ„¢
Car is now back on all fours. That was a palava, but I'm happy I got it back together on my own. Now if only my paint had turned up on Tuesday like it was meant to...

AdamR28
So come on then, what power? Or is that for Prawn to reveal? Racing at Cadwell this weekend, cannot wait!
Pashley26
A reasonable amount more than before, when subjectively reviewing the two turbo setups as cost effective and viable rivals. I hated Prawns hybrid, I am totally head over heels in love with the new K04-064 set up. So much punchier and more character.
