JD™
I spent today with my old man who leant some much needed brute force to getting the whole hub and driveshaft assembly off the Beemer. Blowtorches, breaker bars, and ultimately dremels for some of the bolts and it's off! As it turns out, my earlier question was one I could have done with answering rather than just ordering away! The problem with that car is I don't know what M stuff it has on, and what stuff it doesn't have. Turns out its driveshafts are ones off the M5 so I have to swap them over from the old assembly to the new one, which is just standard 540i. Both assemblies are at a garage to get that done because the tool is a hundred quid. Hopefully finally get it put back together on Monday I'm in the mood for car stuff now though, and I have another free day tomorrow so I'll finally get on with some bodywork
CurtisRider
Dremels? On a car? That must take bloody forever to do anything! Get a real grinder chap, well worth it
JD™
It made surprisingly short work of the 2 bolts we needed, because I bought the super super grinding attachments when I was doing some work on the old Zoot. I definitely need a proper grinder at some point though!
MadManMike
So I got a bright yellow Cupra door today... For my dark blue Leon Tomorrow I rip it apart and salvage everything, then I dispose of the door because it's actually knackered on the outside! CurtisRider
Avoid the poverty grinders (£15 ones) they are painful when they go wrong I have both the Makita and Bosch £40 ones and they are lovely things, infact i'm finding it hard to decide which brand i'll go for when I buy a third grinder (one for cutting, one for grinding and one for wire brushing)
george_seamons
So today my crank sensor died. The very day I move house. A bit frustrating to say the least!
RobinJI
Avoid the poverty grinders (£15 ones) they are painful when they go wrong I have both the Makita and Bosch £40 ones and they are lovely things, infact i'm finding it hard to decide which brand i'll go for when I buy a third grinder (one for cutting, one for grinding and one for wire brushing) I'd go with a Makita personally. My work kill grinders stupidly quickly, and Mikitas have always out lasted other brands, as well as being nice and rebuild-able. Boschs aren't at all bad and they're warranty department have been good to me in the past, but the Mikitas definitely seem better built. Just been to get some 'proper' photos of the new wheels. I say 'proper' in inverted comas, because I went down fully intending to get some really nice shots, took the camera out, and was faced with 'No CF card detected' on the screen. Oh cock. So here's a few shots taken with a far from great phone camera, but at least they're in a pretty location: So yeah, loving how it looks at the moment. Seems to turn a few heads and raise a few smiles now, which is nice, as the green ones only ever seemed to get scowls! Pete.M
I do like the wheels. I'm thinking a white lip with a slighty darker centre would be interesting to see, but it looks awesome anyway.
Boumsong
Seeing all these photos of your 'rocco makes me sad. Mines just sitting on the drive under a tarp.
CurtisRider
Have any of yours actually spent time on the road?

Tom Booth
That's awesome robin. I really like that. I've been having thoughts of swapping the passat recently. I really want a gt-b subby legacy but keep having naughty thoughts of a corrado....
MadManMike
Copied from another forum, because I'm lazy: Guys & girls, a little assistance please...I have a mk1 Leon, which about a year ago decided to play games - the front passenger door decided it didn't want to be part of the central locking system any more, so unlocking and locking was always manual. Anyway, some thieves decided to try and break in and in the process the broke the lock completely and also the window mech.Yesterday I got a new door off eBay, today I stripped it all and replaced the internals of my door (It was a bright yellow door, so not a replacement for mine, I just wanted the internals!)Whilst the lock now works and the window also works again, I still have the central locking issue. It's getting power, I can tell this because when I press the lock button on the drivers side it clicks as though it's trying to lock. For now I've unclipped the outside handle so I can just leave it unlocked, but I'd really like to find out the problem...Anyone had this before? mboon
I have just sold my car IMG_0110 by Mark Boon, on Flickr We just have the one now, BMW 330i Sport which is a lovely car. On the hunt for its replacement
MadManMike
Cheddar!! Nice car by the way, it's rare I say that about Ford's newer than 1990
mboon
Cheers Mike. It is Cheddar, lovely location for a photo. Thanks for the comments on the car. She was nice, quick too )
JD™
Being as the car is off the road, and I'd been meaning to for ages, I decided to get onto some bodywork finally today. Got the rear bumper off, which was the worst of the panels at the moment, and got the cracks fixed. Only got it as far as primer because I don't have the colour yet, but pretty pleased with how it's going so far. Before: During: So far:
CurtisRider
Good work, are you rattle canning it or using a gun?
JD™
It'll just be rattle cans - I've always been more than happy with the results you can get with some care. I'd like to get a gun at some point though!
CurtisRider
Why not get a local paintshop to do the odds and sods in 2K? It seems a shame to not so that on such a nice car
JD™
I think if this panel looks crap once it's all back together I'll probably get it redone with the rest of the bits, but the cars pretty tatty all round. It's more just a case of getting it to look good enough to sell or part exchange in a few months now. It's nice to do these bits, where I'm pretty confident of getting an OK result thanks for the compliment on the car though, it's starting to grow on me again at the moment! Tom Booth
I've been using a 2k lacquer aerosol for the past few months on small jobs and it's as good if not better then my gun work in some applications.
Boumsong
Biggest issue I have with areosol paints is the tip. The circular spray pattern just doesnt lay as nicely as a traditional paint gun fan type pattern.
JD™
Definitely an issue, but I've got some nice tips off some nice cans I bought a while ago. Hopefully it'll go alright! We'll soon see...
Greetings
This is how you f**k up a whole season of work - by running tyres which don't work. Most frustrating bit - nobody knows why this happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs1KoLBzsdg
