Yup.

Lou and I are done, just grew apart. Pretty sad really, but it hasn't come as a shock to anyone yet.

No huge falling out, just decided we weren't happy how we were.

Ah well such is life. Be on your own for a bit, do lots of lad things. Worked for me

Cheers Robin!

Annoyingly they are out of stock on the bugpack bushes, ill give them a shout and find out when they will have them in again. Do you find them noisy at all? I have read of people having issues with squeaking, but I'm guessing they didn't grease them enough before installation?

Out back ill wait as I'm hunting for a 944 back end so it can handle man power later on, doubt the 924 box will handle much more than what a stock 1.8t can push out

Regarding the vaux diesel, 6 speed box has a weak bearing which is made worse when the engines remapped. George Seamons had that problem with his. Also other cars have cruise control :P

I had the Astra 1.9cdti sri 150. Bloody lovely car...had literally ever extra (leather, keyless entry and start, auto everything). Was REALLY torquey and nippy. Responded well to breathing mods too (removing the pre-cat, panel filter, derestricting the airbox etc). However, as Paul says, the gearbox was absolute wank. Had a brand new flywheel put on when I bought it, and that failed within 5k too. The gearbox casings are made from chocolate, and the bearing which holds 1st, 3rd and 6th ends up ovalising the casing...which means a new gearbox; not cheap! The gearboxes were made to withstand a maximum torque, which is the actual figure the standard engine gives out; there is no headroom whatsoever.
Real shame, because like you say, with a remap they are absolute rockets (for what they are!).

All that said and done, I'm fairly sure the Vectra uses a different gearbox (although still 6 speed), so you're probably ok on that front. Do abit more research though, the 16v 1.9cdti has a LOT of issues (EGR valve, inlet manifold swirl flaps and alternator to name a few). If you're prepared to potentially have to foot the bill for those, then go for it.

Like I say, I loved mine (albeit being the XP kitted Astra, not the Vectra!), it was just a very expensive time bomb which had started to tick, and as much as I loved the car, it wasn't worth the £1800 bill it was going to cost in a few months.

...plus, I ended up back in a 1.8t, which I had dearly missed! :P

Thank you very much for the replies both good and bad! My dad is really putting me off getting one but Iccan't find a seat ibiza pd130 within my low budget of around 1.5k :(

Plus the vectra would remap higher but probably deliver lower mpg? Will be doing lots of miles again this year!

Ecodriving is a ridiculous pastime. As I was saying to Carl only last night, by running a 4.4L V8 I'm helping the progress of humanity by using up more of the oil that's left. Only when that is used up will we get good alternative fuel sources.

TL;DR put your foot down, it's good for the planet.

Whut? If you have £X to spend per month, and you need to cover Y miles, simple maths dictates what car you drive and how you drive it.

But I really wish it was your way, because now I'm working (and 23) I will be able to insure some pretty impressive cars in 6-12 months. (Paying debts first, then saving for cars takes time).
