AdamR28
That's actually not too bad, was expecting at least double that for a van of that size. Campervans are cheaper than normal vans And I'm an old git with 9 years NCD
craigjames
Yeah guess I've got to look absolutely everywhere and at everything then haha, I'd hate to poke at it with a screwdriver though. Get a decent magnet then? Also helps to spot any filler/ FG repairs.
Skoze
Yeah guess I've got to look absolutely everywhere and at everything then haha, I'd hate to poke at it with a screwdriver though. Why not? if it's rotten, it's rotten... Obviously don't smash the absolute shit out of it but still, needs a poke.

Tom Booth
B posts about half way up there's a seam, this rots out on most of them and is a twat to repair nicely.
RobinJI
As said, the bed's a bugger, along with just about everywhere else! They don't have subframes though, so no need to check them
Skoze
Just went to the scrapyard local to me and found an RX7 FC and two NSX's (twice the number i've ever seen on the road!). What a waste.
RobinJI
How much for an NSX engine and box (More than I've got I'm guessing!) Went up a hill, did a picture:
Haz
Hypothetical... I want build an engine for my Clio (F4R), nothing extreme but I want to buy a used engine, have it on a stand in the garage, take it to bits, clean it, paint it, etc. Then when it's done drop it in my car. I can buy a second hand engine and gearbox for a pittance (there are enough about with reasonable mileage and good service history) and an engine stand from ebay. I have a friend of a friend with a machine shop who can do can hone cylinders, skim the head. I can do all the belts, clutch etc while it's out. I also have access to 99% of the tools required. There's no real point to this except that it's something to do at the weekends. What do? TL;DR - How to build engine?

munkee
£580 to insure the lotus elise with just 4 years NCD, to be parked on the drive, 6k miles a year and the wench as a named driver. EPIC
george_seamons
Building engines isnt difficult at all. Just take your time and check everything is torqued to the correct figure, and all tolerences are within spec. Make sure you tighten stuff in the right sequence too (particuarly when attatching the head back on). When I did a complete rebuild, and fitted forged rods to mine, I found it almost thearapeutic. Was almost disappointed whe I had finished it! Also, don't underestimate how heavy an engine actually is. It hurts, haha.
CurtisRider
So this polybush malarky, which brands are to be avoided? I'm guessing these super cheap ones on ebay are a poor fit/odd compounds? I'm wondering if I even need polybushes, how much difference will it really make to the car? Seeing as I have the highest sidewall tyres ever, i'm not sure if the extra stiffness will really do much for me?
george_seamons
SuperPro and Powerflex are the better ones...but obviously cost more. Pretty sure Robin has the cheaper ebay ones on his 'Rocco? SuperPro are purple, Powerflex are mostly yellow (although do a Black series), and the cheaper ebay ones are red. Made a big difference handling wise to mine...but that may have just been because the original bushes were shot. Sometimes just replacing with OEM bushes is enough. Polybushes tend to be a bit harsher and give cabin vibration until the bed in a bit (in the case of engine mounts at least). Certainly worth doing if its not a huge expense. AndrewEH1
Another what cable is this post... It's from an Audi A4 as I'm replacing the factory fitted stereo so I can connect iPod etc... Pete.M
SuperPro and Powerflex are the better ones I would suggest Superflex to be one of the better ones too, I've only ever heard good things about them. Andrew, pretty certain that's your aeriel/antenna thingy.

CurtisRider
I did wonder about going for standard bushes but saw the cheaper polys aren't too much more hence asking! I'm in no rush to replace (unless the MOT man says otherwise next week) and the car isn't a proper daily (got a MK5 Golf for that although the Porsche will go to work at least once a week)

Pashley26
Well! 4 years, 4 house moves, 4 jobs, one whirlwind relationship and many great friends later I'm back in Basingstoke with my family! Which means I have a drive-way again! Spent literally ALL day, (7:30 until now) giving the Audi the visual love and attention it's lacked for so long. Today it has been...Iron-X'd, clayed, wheels deionised, engine bay cleaned, interior steam cleaned and shampoo'd, leathers cleaned and treated, interior glass cleaned, all interior plastics blacked and protected, fixed the boost gauge, refitted the radio, stripped and heat gunned all the exterior plastics then treated them, paintwork polished, black hole'd and sealed, wheels waxed, tyres treated, engine bay treated...literally everything. As such, it looks radical to the power of sick. Cannot wait to meet up with Prawn and show him all my handy work, as well as get back to my old antics.
RobinJI
Car's looking good Jardo. Paul, mk1 golf bushes will work for the lower arms if it helps at all. I've got 'Bugpack' ones on my car (Sold by VW heritage as 'bugpack', but the box says 'Prothane'). The front lower arms haven't impacted on ride noticeably at all, and although they didn't add much grip, they've made the limit more predictable and controlled. They're red and I suspect similar to cheap e-bay ones. They've not been on long so I don't know how well they'll last though. You'll never get a huge benefit from the front bushes on yours, just because they're quite small, so they don't have much deflection even if they're soft. VW heritage sell black poly ones as OEM spec replacements now instead of the rubber ones, which might be a nicer option if you don't want to go stiff, but still want the (potentially) increase lifespan of poly. Not sure about out back. I've heard Super-bug stuff will fit, which might be worth checking out.

Pashley26
Whirlwind relationship as in you're now single Jardo? Yup. Lou and I are done, just grew apart. Pretty sad really, but it hasn't come as a shock to anyone yet. No huge falling out, just decided we weren't happy how we were.
