The Car Thread

I've been looking at a first car to myself for a while, and after weighing up all the options I think I'd love to have an old car as a first car.

If everything goes to plan I'll be getting a mk1 caddy in November.

I'm also starting a college course doing motor vehicle maintenance, after a few years doing photography and dreading every morning for it, I cannot wait to start this course.

Caddy as first car... Hmm....

Done any insurance quotes? :)

They will be super-super-super-super-super cheap through specialist insurers.

-

I did NVQ 1,2 and 3 in Motor Vehicle Tech and an additional study in Motorsport Technology. Please don't be one of the useless thunder f**ks that ends up dicking around and wasting everyones time, the hardest thing I found at college was not getting drawn into all the dicking about and remembering I was there to learn. Not be a lad...

Hope you enjoy it :)

Did a few on that website with the annoying TV man. 2k a year fully comprehensive, my dad as a named driver got it down about a hundred quid.

My ma rang aviva up a few weeks ago and got a quote of £719 for 8 months.

Haven't rung aviva for anything else but I can't find anything under 3k online other than the caddy.

My friend who's selling me it, is on £400 ish a year and he's 21 I think?

Thanks man! I'll make sure I remember that during the course, I'm sure there will probably be quite a lot of 'lads' there but I'm only interested in learning about cars.

Right ain't been on for a good ol while, so I'll post an update to what's happening.

Got wheels for ye olde mk3 golf:

Got bored of the golf, and the vw scene in general so had it posted up for sale 1k with the wheels or 700 without on all dubs classifieds. To my astonishment, I had about 50 emails regarding buying it or swapping in total. After scouring through the crap. Thought this would be my best option:

The BMW e36 2.8

After a day:

Wheels won't be staying, but my mate had some spare paint down.at his body shop. I've had a few ideas on wheels but will have to wait until payday.

It came with an m50 manifold and a few spare wheels, not bad condition, just needs a service, lollipop joints and a new wing. Not a bad car I think.

MK3 for BMW post

Done a goodun there!

Perhaps (and your story supports this) you should have asked more for the Golf? VW scene types will pay fortunes for average cars with a few quid spent on them. That's not to slag yours off, but in general; £200 Golf + £100 coilovers = £2000

In related news, I've been banned from Edition38 again, not entirely sure why this time :P

I reckon I could of got about 1300 for it if I waited until the end of the show season, an although the mk3 was a complete babe for me, It just struck me as pointless, the vw scene is now same car different rims or paint, and throw thousands at plush to do something that's only worth a Grand. It'll live on, but it's now hit its limit to what can be done.

In regards to the BMW, if my Abs light is on, does that mean I can't turn my traction control off (I have both the abs light On and the warning sign with the arrow going around it on.)

Don't you need commercial insurance on a Caddy? That is all I could get for the T25 when I looked into it, which made it annoyingly expensive

Yeah commercial/van insurance, dunno if the no claims crosses over to cars or not. Hope it does.

The quote of 2k was done as van insurance on go compare, and the quote of 719 for 8 months was over the phone the aviva.

Dunno if it's too good to be true? They say low power cars/vans with 2 seats are cheaper to insure because you can't put a whole load of mates in therefore being much safer to drive. People will reply saying top entry sports cars are 2 seaters, but you know what I mean. ;)
