Pashley26
[copy and paste from ASN] A great afternoon/evening indeed, Phil Miller to the rescue again! A steering rack change with inner track rods swapped, from drive in with the wheels on to drive out with the system bled in under an hour...Un-human mechanical legendary! I can't thank you enough bro. I fitted an LCR rack a couple of months ago, and it had more holes than a holey thing. Leaked like a sieve. I've put 7L of CHF in it in the last month...At £11 a bottle! So I picked up an S3 rack on ebay for £50 posted (I think) and touch wood after a 25 mile drive this one doesn't leak Also, everybody knows my front bumper is f**ked and I have to turn the saturation and contrast up in my pictures to hide it. If you didn't know, that's what I've been doing for the last year... Well I wasn't having that! I bought a bumper off eBay, paid an extortionate amount for it because I was told it was non metallic black and immaculate. Straight bolt on part...It turned up in Volcano grey haha! So I spent a month, in my shed, like a man, with rattle cans and wet and dry. And I must say I'm rather pleased with the results And a cheeky engine shot, so you can see where the magic happens. Luke Rainbird
1.8t folks: A 3" downpipe and 2.5" catback should let the engine exhale without any real restriction, right? Jardo; Come and visit Phil with me this afternoon if you're about
george_seamons
A 3" downpipe opens the engine up no end. When you compare a 3" downpipe to the stock one, you'll be gobsmacked at how restrictive it is! 2.5" cat-back will also open it up a little bit, but the main restriction is the downpipe. Get it done! Luke Rainbird
Yeah - the 3" DP seems a fairly common mod, just wanted to check to see if the 2.5" cat back is likely to be enough really - a little reading about seems to suggest it'll do, though would I notice any real difference going for a 2.75" CB instead? george_seamons
If you plan on sticking with a ko3s, no, you probably won't gain anything. The more free flowing, the better, but there comes a point where the extra cost for the bigger tubing isn't worth the fractional gain in flow (at <300bhp, say). I think even 3" is fine up to something like 600bhp. That said, Nick has a 3" system that he got from ebay that was silly cheap, might be worth asking him where he got it from. IIRC it is a turbo-back system, and was only like £2-300. Only thing is, the tailpipe choice was pretty non-existant...it was literally just a straight pipe out of the backbox...but at that price if you wanted a fancy tip welded on, it wouldn't exactly be the end of the world! Luke Rainbird
Been offered a stainless 3" DP/2.5" catback setup excluding back box for £100. New inc gaskets etc. Seems like a winner then really. Though I definitely shouldn't be buying more parts for a month or two...!
george_seamons
Yup, sounds good. Back box will prob be £50ish, so a good deal by the sounds of it.

Dan6061
I cleared out my inlet manifold with the oxy acetylene torch at work. Fun times! Made quite a difference from what I can tell, doesn't smoke out the back either so far! Give it a week and it will be full of shit again. CurtisRider
Went to peak at my brakes earlier as I was getting some annoying squeal, turns out my car has feckloads of new stuff on it, including calipers and pads I was flicking through the service history and it has had thousands spent on parts over the past 10 years! Mechanically the Porsche is sweet and mostly like new! Apart from some electrical and cosmetic issues that I am gradually sorting, there is very little I need to do to it currently. I am finding however that the 125bhp isn't enough. I really need a 1.8T for this car! It's begging for more power
MadManMike
Just managed to get hold of a new door lock and window mech for the Leon for pretty much nothing. Should have a secure door soon then! Shame that thieving scum made me have to do it at all though...

Pashley26
My old 900 Turbo is up for parts on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAAB-900-CLASSIC-TURBO-16S-FULL-BODY-KIT-3-DOOR-HATCH-BREAKING-CAR-/251268680425?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a80c7cae9 They want more for the body kit than I sold the car for 4 years+ ago It had over 170K on it when I told it, so it must have done at least 200K by now. Greetings
2 vids from a comp last Saturday. I ended up installing a HANS device onto an OMP Star helmet due to the possible danger. Stage was bloody scary but also extremely fun and I'm surprised I managed to memorize it after one slow run. Definitely the most challenging one I've been on yet. The people who set it up did a great job slowing us down in some places which could well have saved a few drivers from smashing their cars and getting hurt. Nobody crashed. Result: 1st place OPEN class (BMW chassis, BMW engine) 1st place overall BMW Challenge 2nd place overall AB Cup (includes other cars in different classes, not just BMW) Still can't beat the driver in the Megane RS Cup but managed beat all the Evos and STI's, including a pro in A-Group spec Evo 9. Fastest run + GoPro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YC-31pfqgs 2nd fastest run + RaceChrono telemetry with a 5hz GPS module: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LurzRAAnf4A This telemetry is bloody accurate, the indicated time was 4.12.9, and the actual time measured by cells was 4:13 dead. Unfortunately it gets a bit lost in the woods.

Pashley26
The dullest of dull updates. I did 600 miles in this in the last two days, spent over 12 hours in the car. Currently running very well, and looking great. I just got home from a drive back from Basingstoke on the 303 at night...need I say any more? For the first time in about a month intake temps were sub 15* tonight, with ambient outside temp at 20*, so the IC was doing it job bloody well! As such it was really loving it and gulping in as much air as possible, which has put my G/s logs back above 190 for the first time in months. Very happy that it's still got it in it. Took a variety of pictures in Basingstoke over the weekend - Home at last Substantial lows with a full tank of fuel! Spotted this beautiful Velvet M3 in Basingstoke multi storey. Peeekabooo! How many Turks to clean an A3? Every time I go there they say "sick car bro! We have dude who bring racing Audi car here!" (which means Prawn) Interior - Creeping up on the diesel French coupe. In the car park - I love having a shiny bumper again!
Luke Rainbird
Good shit dude - looking/running well it seems. You about this evening at all? Could do with plugging in to VCDS if you wouldn't mind - had a light on the dash briefly this morning and would like to see why.
Skoze
Where can i get some really wide 14/15s from? Lips need to be really deep and nothing seems to be satisfying me so far. Don't wanna have to go for banded steels either... These (http://www.midlandwheels.com/Shop/P-6840-7.5x-13-JBW-RS-4-Spoke-Black-Machined.html) were my original plan, but it seems the widest 13" tyre i can get is a 205 which is total balls.
