The Car Thread

Haha, I knew you'd be able to tell me.

It's always a shame to see a car that's been sat so long its tyres are flat. There used to be a yellow pontiac firebird sat outside a house further away. That's even more of a waste!

Well that just goes to show how long this one has been sat eroding away.

I think you said about that one, didn't we try ad hunt it on street view?

That might've been an FD RX7.

I'll see if the Pontiac's on street view but it's a good few years it's been gone.

And yes, the Pontiac is gone, it's replaced with a Honda Jazz. >_<

First link on Google: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C174238"Taxed until 03/11, MOT to16/08/2011".Sounds taxed? :P Anyway, very interesting looking things they are. Not sure if it's a good thing that you recognised it that quickly/easily though haha.

Oh, and working out what it was is actually very easy. Escort radiators are regularly used in kit cars so that was an easy spot, I can measure Ford PCD from a 1/4 mile away, and the Ford Girling calipers have a very distinctive single sliding calipers, the escort mk4 door handles are also very distinctive. So knew it had to be an Escort based kit car, and there is only one company made cars so shoddily that designing the entire car around the doors which is Quantum. And there we have it :)

Pretty sure they're fiesta based aren't they? Ginetta also made cars based around Ford doors, in fact theirs even used the original door skins. (G28/30/31/32)

As cheesy and gay as they all are, I quite like all the stupid late 80's imitation sports cars that the UK churned out. Can you imagine actually buying one new?

Just seen this...

I want that 323.

Lol at your edit, grumpy f**ker. ;) You missed a great SOS the other day, around 100 cars apparently, and a Limbo competition and loads of low riders. All the American boys from Cornwall came, and a load of stuff from Exeter. Was a really good meet apparently, I also couldn't be bothered and have seen nothing but pictures of how great it was since.

Haha, I lost track of how many edits I did, I couldn't make up my mind as to how much of a twat I should be calling you out on things, I settled for being fairly nice in the end.

Meh to SOS, I was at the beach, with beer and friends, much rather be there than in a car-park with cars and strangers. (hence the want for an estate at the moment, I'm trying to drag my life back to having more than cars in it.) Would have been cool if I hadn't been busy though.

Would like advice from you car people regarding tyres :)

195/60/15 on a 1.8 tdci focus, need new front tyre pretty sharpish, not too bothered about being grippy because that's not the driving I do, would like pretty quiet road noise and good life whilst being cheap. A local tyre place will typically get specific tyres in but I don't know if I would be better buying loose and getting them fitted. I've always gone with budgets from the local place at about 50 quid a quarter fitted.

Looking to spend as little as possible really, preferably 30-50 per tyre - recommend me please!
