Luke Rainbird
I was going to say that it'd look just right if the rear was a touch higher to match the arch gap (or lack of) of the front, personally.See also: Back in Devon again now - will drop this rack around to you at some point!
Tom Booth
Just a bit more spam from me. Tomorrow I am DECKING it, as low as it will possibly go whilst still moving. Those poor poor drop links:(
Pashley26
My drop links will be fine. It's a problem which clearly doesn't exist, I might even disconnect the front roll bar entirely. What are you doing tonight Rainbird? Fancy going to Wetherspoons for a burger? I'm bored as f**k. I'm going into town tomorrow morning and need to go into work at 4 so I could always stop by on my way back from work? I'm going to shorten the center section tomorrow as well, it's loosened up and the exhaust is actually wonky now. Pashley26
I have just the thing for the Golf...I'll sort it next week. Farcela G3 and a hand cutting sponge, it is amazing for unloved cars. Cuts the scratches right out and gives a great base for color correction. Luke Rainbird
This thing is utterly f**ked, so I'll be incredibly impressed if it sorts it - That said I only want to get rid of the worst of it for now.Non-paintwork stuff I will be stealing your knowhow for though
Pashley26
Fair enough, I know very little about the engine but everything around it is the same. You say its f**ked, which is a red rag to a bull.
MadManMike
One of my side lights has gone bang, so I'm looking to buy a couple of new ones. Can anyone suggest a decent pair, that don't cost too much? I've seen expensive and I've seen blatant shit - looking for something in between. Are LED ones legal / any good?
george_seamons
LED ones are legal, but look stupid unless you have HID's...which you don't; so I'd just stick to "normal" bulbs. You can get ones with a bluish tint to them...all depends what bulbs you're running though.
CurtisRider
I've been using these lately http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-5-SMD-LED-Xenon-White-LED-501-T10-W5W-Interior-Light-bulbs-SUPER-BRIGHT-/330908390293?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d0bad5395 Been great, took them out recently to check and all the LEDS are still functioning (found others tend to slowly blow all the LEDS). For the price I am certainly not grumbling, certainly very visible on thier own EDIT: George is right, LEDS only really suit HIDS, my parents had these in their car and they looked reasonably white without looking out of place with thier halogen dips http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-OSRAM-W5W-5w-501-HALOGEN-COOL-BLUE-INTENSE-BULBS-E-ROAD-LEGAL-/310655227294?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item48547e959e Lasted 2 years, now they have LEDS (same as the ones i have) and HIDS Edited April 24, 2013 by CurtisRider
MadManMike
So what you're saying is, I should buy LED's and HID's at the same time?
CurtisRider
Nope, not unless you retrofit projectors!
george_seamons
Not unless you're going to get projector lenses, no. HID's in standard Leon lights are a big no no. The lights aren't designed for the type of light the HID bulb gives out, and as such, you end up with a totally retarded beam pattern. I fitted retrofit bi-xenon projectors to mine (they were about £30 shipped from Hong Kong from memory). ALWAYS get comments about how good they look, and how much light they give out. They are probably my favourite mod I have done to the car (and as far as I know, I am the only person in the UK to have fitted this type of lense to a Leon). To non-petrolheads, they look factory enough to be standard, but to people in the know, they look good enough to question what they are! CurtisRider
What dimensions are the lenses? I would quite like bi-xenons
george_seamons
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINI-BIXENON-HID-H1-PROJECTOR-CHROME-SHROUDS-LHD-RHD-/251180119648?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a7b807660 That's the exact kit I got. It was £62...not £30, my bad. WELL worth that though. Bi-xenons are incredible! You can get several different lenses though, as you already have projectors, it will probably be cheaper for you to buy just a lense. There are several different types though, so kinda depends how yours mount.
Gandalf the Yellow
quick question guys based on MK4 Golf. ARB (sorry again I cba to scroll through loads of pages) which ones can I go for lows so it doesn't rub? TT, LCR...and anything other options..? does R32 ones fit? Desperate need to hunt one down. george_seamons
I couldn't really answer that. I just put it in, and it works, haha. Think the retrofit ones are a fairly standard size across the range though. All the bezels seem to be 2.5"...so the actual glass must be the same size. With regards to the ARB question...tt or lcr is what you want. R32 will fit physically, but is 23mm instead of 19mm, so will upset the balance unless a rear bar is added too. Whiteline also make a bar that goes under the driveshafts.

Haha so you didn't actually measure your lights before? Sounds either incredibly lucky or handy
george_seamons
There were mesaurements on the ebay page. I took a rough measurement if the lights, and it was more or less the same...so I ordered them. I like to call it an educated guess
Gandalf the Yellow
There's an Eibach ARB with drop links on E38 at the moment.... not sure on size etc but will that upset the balance like you said like the 23mm ones? not sure what size they are. I assume that will clear any rubbing as well? Steve
george_seamons
Eibach bars are still the hooped design, so with enough of a drop they could still rub. You don't really want to go any bigger on the front (unless you add a rear bar too), because it will just make it more understeery. LCR bars can be had for about £40...how much is the Eibach one?
Gandalf the Yellow
90 with drop links, found an LCR last night anyway so all good now just need to fit it now. Cheers...! Steve
Pashley26
That bar is WAY over priced. There is an H&R one on there for £90, sure you aren't confused? I Was offered a Whiteline 23mm adjustable bar for £50 last month. Keep looking I say.
