The Car Thread

I need to get some new photo's of the Scirocco. Currently rolling on some comedy bright green BBS that I picked up at the weekend. They don't look anywhere near as bad as I expected, in fact other than how in your face they are I actually kind of like them. Probably still paint them sometime though.

This is the only shot I've got so far, excuse the bent bumper and generally crap exterior condition  It's definitely starting to gain the used and abused look!

I'm feeling good about the car recently, it's getting to a point where the teething issues after the engine swap and sitting for a year are all getting ironed out. Now I can have some confidence in it the chassis's showing it's self to actually be fine with the current power, it feels like I could get away with a fair bit more so I'll turn the boost up a bit soon, there's a lot of room for improvement chassis wise too, so it'll be fun improving things. That's not to say it handles badly as it is by any means, but I know there's plenty of parts that would help it be even better.

Right, I'd like some advice.....I recently bought a passat cc, and I want to modify it. I had a seat Ibiza beforehand that was lowered on coilovers, sat on Borbet A's, 16x9, et15 all round, so you can sort of guess the style I'm after. Obviously not quite that extreme, I'd quite like to hit a 'VIP' look on the head, and think I have a good base to start from. Ideally I'd like 19's on it, which should mean it won't require a massive drop, which is good cos I drive over 20,000miles a year, so it needs to be comfortable. Any advice on a suitable suspension set up would be greatly appreciated. I'd prefer adjustable suspension, but I'd consider anything :)

Gotta go for something HR or eibiech on something like that surely? Something as refined. I have FK highsports on my passat, but there all the way down so wouldn't be a fair comparison for yours. When they were at a sensible height thou I loved them. Pleeeease put bentleys on it, last cc I saw on bentleys looked jaw dropping.

I've been considering all sorts, but I reckon your right with Bentley wheels, they'd look incredible. It's just getting a set for a reasonable price haha.

I'm trying to shift my borbets and a few other sets at the moment to pay for wheels, then I'll sort suspension, and stick it all on at the same time.

They are are in solid and so I dont fancy snapping them trying to remove them :( I seem to remember reading that removing them when the engine is hot is the best plan as the head will have expanded?

I know it's a bit late but; I run them up hot, spray with penetrating fluid then have a go at them. Haven't snapped one yet.

One side is now finished. Still need to do the other.

Smoothing wings, which will then be rolled.

Aye, looking forward to it in my mobile chicane :P

In related news, got a bunch of wires, a 1A fuse and holder, some spade connectors and a Race Technolgoy DL1 Datalogger on my desk. That's tonight's job sorted then... As well as finishing the cover for my trailer. And prepping for the track day. And...

ouch. Looks nasty! M3 has sure seen some use

Trackday double header for me this weekend! Abingdon airfield on Friday for the cars first shake down since some fairly major works, then a trip to Donington park with Northloop and our very own Mr. Adam Read on Sunday :)

Might come and watch at Abingdon on Friday, be interesting to see cars going round there, my old house used to back onto the airfield.

That guy was very calm to say he hit a tree, there'd have been a lot more swearing if it was me

Fitted them drop links and its made a right difference. Steering feels a lot more responsive. Still not 100% sure I've cured the knocking though. Certainly most of it has gone :)

Allo allo all quite some time since being on here but need some advice. Looking to get rid of my bmw 5 series for something along the lines of an elise but not a clue on how best to make the transition. I'm assuming my car to be worth more than an elise I expect I can get 13-15k for mine it's done 31k miles 57 plate and its a 520d m sport auto tourer. The Elise's ive seen are around 10-14k for the 111s and insurance is not much different to what I pay now.Am I best selling mine private here or push for part exchange (or full it seems?) or get the bmw dealers to buy it off me and run with the money?

Snip.

I think you're better off cash-wise to sell privately and barter down on the Elise for a cash sale, but for ease / speed trade in would win obviously...

Big difference in those two cars btw! You definitely have no excuse not to come on trackdays then :P Put a bit to it and get an Exige? :-
