Duncy H
So I've put new carb mount on,cleaned a few jets, cleaned oil breather filter and pipe, gave carb a quick clean, built it all up and now it ticks over better but there is a flat spot when you rev it at first and there is a constant sound as though it is sucking in air (coming from the carb) and I can't fathom out what it is. There is a small thin pipe at the back of the carb but I can't remember seeing it or where it came from? Also found another thing that could have caused the fault, the end of the last fuel filter has a twist on it an it is very restrictive. So I nicked one off my mini and put that on. Edit: I ha put the jets back in the wrong way round Edited January 7, 2013 by Duncy H
Duncy H
I'm really starting to get ticked off with this now, I need my car as have a very important couple of weeks starting today. So far I have, -Put air line down fuel lines- -Put new inline fuel filter on -New crankcase breather -Cleaned airbox -New carb mount -Cleaned jets And still the problem persists. Any pointers I'd really appreciate it, I'm loosing my wrag with it now.
Pashley26
Have you isolated the symptoms and causes yet?
RobinJI
I know it's a massive hassle, but next time it cuts out, it might be worth taking the top off the carb to see if there's any fuel in the float chamber. That would at least rule out an ignition issue if it's dry in there. The only thing left to check fuel wise is the return valve thing. Duncy H
Well if i had i reckon i'd have fixed it ;P But nahh, I think it is most likely fuel related as it seems more like fuel starvation than anything.

Boumsong
Well if i had i reckon i'd have fixed it ;P But nahh, I think it is most likely fuel related as it seems more like fuel starvation than anything. Lift the sender unit out the top of the tank and see if the filter at the bottom of the pick up pipe is clear. Its like a small plastic tube about an inch long with thiny perforations in it. Mine used to crud up with rust and grit blocking the flow.
Boumsong
Will you paint it for a crate of beer? Have you got/Will you get the paint? Or do you want me to source it?
Dan6061
I'd need you to source it. It's Ming blue, pearlescent...
Pashley26
As Robin says. You need to isolate whether it IS a fueling or a sparking issue. It isn't electronic ignition is it? An over heating condenser can cause the issues you are getting, or worn points sticking.
Duncy H
Well I'm too busy to sort it now cause I've got 4 exams this week and next and am very busy so while I'm revising I thought I get free breakdown cover? May as well use so there is a man going to come and prod at it and likely scratch his head and say I don't know what it is ha. If he can't sort it he will take it to my mates garage, for free, who will fix it for me, for err free lol. It's leccy ignition me thinks. It doesn't seem to be a misfire, much more seems like fuel starvation. Could be fuel pump or pump relay on its way out? Edit: its strange how i get a better response on here than any actual car forums Edited January 8, 2013 by Duncy H
RobinJI
It'll be electronic ignition, and from the factory will have been a mechanical fuel pump (next to the oil-filter on the block). Unlikely to be the pump, they're pretty bomb proof. If it's ignition then I'd guess at an overheating coil or ignition amplifier. If it's fuel then you've ruled out pretty much everything other than the fuel return valve. (mounted to the side of the rocker cover, directs fuel to the return line when the float chamber's full.) Or it could be a sticking float needle, but it sounds like you've had the carb apart?
Greetings
f**k me that evo is epic. Kind of reminds me of this beast: In related 4wd awesomeness, got the Daihatsu back since there's snow outside. Car is pretty much sorted now, just needs the thermostat removed. Waiting for it to cool down. Lowered the seat, installed a new boss and the wheel from the M3. Feels soooo much nicer now.
Pete.M
I want that Daihatsu more than I want that Evo. That kinda sums up my taste in cars. On which note, planning to pick up a rwd turbo Volvo soon and start getting sideways. Can't wait. Selling the Focus at £550 if anyone's interested. Came back from a drive in the jap. Just me and my friend looking for interesting stages, most are way too bumpy for our cars. Finding a twisty smooth route seems really difficult, no success today. No pics either, just this one from one of many "got to stop and check where the hell we are" moments. We did find a sort of triangular roundabout in one village, spent a while going around.

N.Wood
My front passenger wheel bearing is whining - Am I gonna die if I continue to drive it? I have booked it in for Tuesday, but have to drive from Devon to Shropshire and back at the weekend... Will I die in a fireball of bearing and my own faeces? CurtisRider
I would avoid driving anywhere other than to the garage to get it fixed personally, there is no point risking it
Luke Rainbird
Yeah - could last 500 miles, could last 5. Best get that shit sorted and keep that beautiful grill of yours in one piece.
Tom Booth
If it whining I wouldn't advise driving it, but doubt it'll kill you. The only problem with worn wheel bearings is the excessive heat they make.
N.Wood
Thanks! Imma jack it up at some point and see if there is any / much play in it.
