Greetings
Prawn how long have you had this QR for? I had an identical one (perhaps of worse quality) and it developed play very quickly. Personally if I were to invest in a QR, I'd go for Sparco or a similar brand. They're about 200 quid but they're used in WRC so that's probably a decent recommendation. Finished the lighting mods, although it's possible to have 2x more light, I don't need any more. White balance is a bit on the blue side, low beam is yellowish, HID's are white. Normal beam, the Osram bulbs Jardo was talking about: Normal + high beam on 5000k HID's for 18 quid per set. Normal, high beam + Wesem spots on 5000k HID's.
Pashley26
With the "I will shit on something" bulbs you have kept the low to mid range depth I was concerned about. Looks great!
Greetings
I think I can see what you're talking about. But I don't agree with you that this is better than higher brightness HIDs. Only thing I'm not keen on is the 5000k bulbs, should have gone with 4300k. I have 5000s on my daily driver which are much warmer than the ones I just put on. Then again perhaps that's the kind of inconsistency you get for buying a HID kit for 18 quid.
CurtisRider
Yeah, all my bulbs have been different with my cheapy hid kits, you get what you pay for I guess! Kinda gutted my current ones need replacing as they were a proper white rather than nasty blue like some people have
george_seamons
You'll probably find that the 5000k ones need to "bed in" a bit. I always find mine tone down a bit after a bit of use. That looks NOTHING like 5000k...I'd say it was nearer 8000k. The Osram bulbs you have in the first picture are nearer 5000k.
Greetings
Surely if you buy some proper Philips bulbs they'll be ok? Come to think of it, can you actually change Xenon bulbs in these cheap kits? The bulbs come with cables which seem to be an integral part of the kit. Edit: George, the white balance is off. In the flesh the HID's are ever so slightly bluer than the low beam in the 1st pic. Edited December 20, 2012 by Greetings
CurtisRider
The bulbs should unplug from the ballast....unless you have an even more rediculously cheap kit than mine
Greetings
Ha Mine look like this, the cable seems to be a part of the bulb. Actually, here's a pic of a "replacement bulb", it comes with all the cables What are yours like?
CurtisRider
Like that, new bulbs come with all the cabling on them thats a typical aftermarket hid setup, you wont have trouble finding bulbs
Duncy H
Bought a new stereo, it doesn't work.... (not that bothered though cause i prefer this one) I'm sure I had a switched live last night. Anyway now i don't and i have just a permanent live. I traced what i think is the switched live feed to the steering column/ignition barrel, took off the block connector and it would appear there is no connector for the feed i am concerned about. Too hungry to do anything about it now though.
isitafox
I always had trouble with headunits in VW's. Got pee'd off with it in the end in my mk1 and ended up having a permanent live and just taking the face off whenever I stopped to stop the battery running down. RobinJI
If you need to tap into something for a new switched live then take it from the yellow and black feed from the ignition switch, it's the switched live that cuts on cranking that's used for the headlights. Then just feed it a fused permanent 12v live from on of the spare fuses on the fuse-box. I've got a mk2 golf Haynes here if you need me to look anything up in it but the wiring diagrams in it are shite. Toby
I have a quick release boss, although mine's a driftworks ball bearing one rather than the splined type, so the locking is entirely positive, and it will not turn the column at all unless 100% locked, the ball bearings and spring loading system also mean it'll be longer before play develops. Mines also a ball bearing type, you'd have to be a right out retard to not lock it in properly
Simon
Mines also a ball bearing type, you'd have to be a right out retard to not lock it in properly Same, i had NRG Quick release in my last two Civic's, it's awesome and zero play. Put it through some shit too, never felt concerned about it. My mate however has the cheap ones of ebay. So much play, doesn't feel safe at all. Grizz91
I have a driving story to share. I was driving with my mate in the car, going down the old A30 in Cornwall. Next minute the lorry in front of us pulled onto the other side of the road, revealing a tractor in front of it, and it actually did it, it nailed the tractor and stormed off. Im so glad i had my GoPro set up as a dash cam, heres the video. http://youtu.be/47isGPo6ow4
