Lol, thanks Jardo, it's a good laugh. Shame the shell's not tidier, I really do need to sort that drivers door out soon, and get a proper Re-circ valve to replace that gopping dump valve. Oh, and get MY wheels on it not those Vauxhall fitment Revos haha.

They don't tend to last long if they are cheapy ones. I have been through about 15 pairs of 501s of different types, and 5 or 6 festoon types in multiple cars. I think my last pair were £1 posted from HK and lasted a year which is pretty good going! Worst I have had have lasted a week. My car has leds through the whole interior, sidelights and plate lights

This isn't Midnight club.

Awful.

They only come on when the doors opened, stock Saab setup. Halogen bulbs are so yellow and dull, looks rank!

My mondeo is like that, all comes on when you open the doors or unlock it. the standard bulbs are shite. LED' s are a much clearer light, and looks better.

Going back to ramp stuff, i have found these:

LOWANGLECARRAMPS.jpg

http://www.restorationramps.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/ramps?opendocument&part=3

Of which im thinking about making them lower profile with removeable ramps and a central jacking bar so that i can use my jack like this:

jackingbeamhd.jpg

but the car jacks up from the wheels instead, then the ramp part can be removed and put to the side and i can have height adjustable legs under the frames so it can be whatever height i want

Next comp is a night event. Was supposed to be snowy which is why I bought the Daihatsu but all the snow has disappeared and forecasts say there won't be any for another week. So need to mount these on the M3. Going to install HIDs on the Wesems, thinking about HID's on the Oscars or is it overkill? Probably going to go for HID's on the low beam too so it's going to be bright.

A small update, but an update none the less.

Old parcel shelf was minging and stained and horrible. One of the straps was snapped and it made me cry thinking about it being all wonky when I lifted the boot. Weirdly it smelt too.

So I hosed it down, sprayed it with interior shampoo and hoovered it off.

Used a lint roller to pull all the bobbles off and shaved it like you do alcantara seats.

Then I sprayed it satin black with a rattle can.

It came out really really well, so I'm going to do my side pillars tomorrow.

There will be a fairly major interior update soon. :)

Personally I would stick with proper bulbs; HID's make everything look two dimensional and even more so in lights like that.

I'd much rather have the depth of vision that bulbs given than the brightness of HID's.

What do you mean by two dimensional? I mean light is light, it's just photons no matter what the source, no? I have HID's on my daily driver, they're bloody brilliant. Only problem I can see is the bulb being longer and therefore the focal point changing.

HID's make the scenery seem artificial; flat almost.

It's quite a common complaint, certainly among UK drivers that when driving in the countryside there is no depth to the light and that it feels like you are just watching a video.

I feel the same way about my HID's, on B roads I don't think they are anywhere near as good as my old H7 Osram Nightbrakers for driving fast. They seem to miss out, or phase out crucial details.

I guess it's preference then. Personally I haven't noticed any downsides to HID's. Would never go back to normal lights.

Also can't help giggling at Osram, in Polish it means "I'll shit on something". Although I think I had a pair of those bulbs you mentioned in the Cibies last year, they were pretty expensive but also a lot better than standard bulbs.

What's the laws an regulations like over there Si on modding etc?

f**king mental.

Basically, you can't really do anything.

Cage is illegal, bucket seat is illegal, neons are LEGAL, carbon bonnet is illegal, rose joint suspension are illegal, brake modifications are illegal beyond changing disc and pads (this includes hydro for drifts), even an intake filter is illegal, there is restraints on wheel width and tyre sizes depending on factory options, so you can't have more then a certain amount wider then factory, so for example, because the Silvia came with an OEM 7j wheel i think, the widest i can go is 10.5j or something. Any kind of braided line is illegal and EVERY car HAS to have an immobiliser by law. yada yada yada.

You can make modifications legal, but you need an engineer to check it over. Cage can only be half cage, if you have a full cage you can't have door bars so services can get in, in case of accident, flat out not allowed harnesses, you can get a cert for a bucket seat, but again it's effort.

There is some more stupid which i've forgotten too. Like, stuff that at the end of the day really has no basis in law as there is actually any proof or substance behind the law except to be annoying to young people and cars.

You can even get a yellow sticker for not having washer fluid - yellow sticker is a defect notice where they basically go over the car with a fine tooth comb and check everything is by law, basically, you have to put your car back to standard or it wont pass.

Basically, you have to mod's that aren't so obvious and try to get away with it, and if you do get a yellow, hope they don't notice some of the un-obvious and annoying stuff to change. Like, in theory, you can't do a 4-5 stud conversion as you fiddling with the brakes, but they usually don't notice if you stick with same model - ie, sticking Skyline/S14 brakes on my S13 will go un-noticed as they all Nissan branded etc.

So yeah, me sticking 18x10 et18 on the rear probably isn't the best idea i've ever had, but f**k it. :)

So actually you can do quite a lot, it just has to be done properly and signed off by a qualified technician. Sounds pretty sensible to me; what sort of chump would want to put anything bigger than a 10.5J on a Silvia anyway? Again, who would want a cage without buckets or vice versa, and who would want harnesses without a bucket and cage?

Pierre was in Oz for fecking ages and he sent me LOADS of pictures of heavily modified cars on the streets, and a guy I know from various forums and as a mutual friend lives in Oz and he owns a heavily modified S3 and I've never heard him complain about tight regulations. Just that he has to go and get new modifications signed off.

It's all layed out here - http://www.rta.nsw.g...si/vsi_dl1.html

I'm sorry to say it Simon, but Australian law doesn't seem to have an issue with modified cars; it just doesn't like what you do to cars which makes them pointless and dangerous.

Hate to sound like a fanny, but that's my job.

You literally have no idea.

Check where i live again.

http://www.transport...nsing/20500.asp

Read the 'Modifications that don't need approval' bit. ANYTHING beyond that you should, in theory, ask permission to do.

You also have no idea how hard it is to get anything licensed here. Nine times out of 10 they'll just refuse it for a road going car and you look like a Hoon, which because of the laws which actually punish you more for having an empty washer bottle then drink driving, 99% of people think you are. Not to mention how expensive it is to get that inspection.

I never said i wanted more then 10.5, and when have i ever said pointless or dangerous?

You realise that you and Prawns car would be illegal here right, and there would be NO chance of Prawns EVER being road worthy because of his interior, unless you really wanted to spend that much effort to put it back to OEM.

So does that make your modifications pointless and dangerous?

You don't always have to be a fanny to get your opinion across.

Well it sucks to be you then doesn't it. :)

I've just read the application form; and you can put down whatever you like. http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/LBU_F_VS_ModificationLightVehicles.pdf

You send that off, if it gets approved then you get the work done and follow that up with getting it tested. If they don't approve it then you adapt the list to a way that they do approve it.

If you want I'll ask Sam how he's gone about fitting a GT28 to his S3, along with coilovers, Brembo's, ARB's etc. He drives his daily.
