RobinJI
Yeah, I've seen Andys, pretty cool. Shifters like that do look nice, and I'd have liked to make a bit more of a feature of it, but the Scirocco's driving position's so low slung even as standard that there's no height for it, the shifter only needs raising a little above the tunnel, and because of how it mounts my options were quite limited without adding pointless weight or mounting it higher than's actually nice. Pashley26
Yeah I remember from mine, I loved having the big long shifter. I miss my Scirocco She was so good!

RobinJI
Yeah, that does look tidy. Mine's shell's not the greatest, a few bends in the floor-pan from previous owners being idiots with jacks, and a few dents/cracks in the paint caused by being parked in a public car-park every day for years. Still, I like having a car I don't feel bad for actually using properly, I'm building it as something for me to have fun in, rather than for other people to look at at shows, so I'm not too bothered as long as it looks respectable at a glance. Oh, when you stopped in on daddy prawn I hope he was unbolting and posting some 100mm 02j drive flanges for me!?
Pashley26
No big bad dad was NOT unbolting driveshaft flanges for you, he was making lunch for small awesome mum. Sorry. Yeah bro, it'll be awesome and something a bit different and generally awesome.
Skoze
Day to day, how do people find life with harnesses?
RobinJI
Ah balls, I bloody hope he has remembered to get them in the post, I really would like to get the engine back in on Wednesday and the drive-flanges/CV joints will be a lot easier to change with the engine still out. george_seamons
Skoze - harnesses day to day are f**king annoying. They are shit to look around at junctions, shit for changing track or radio station, shit for reversing, just generally shit. Although sayign that, they do feel far far superior in spirited driving, because there us no movement in the seat whatsoever. Just don't run them on normal reclining seats though, because in a crash you could potentially snap your spine. Robin - shifter looks good. I had mine there in the a3, it feels SO much better, properly puts the shifter right in your hands.
Pashley26
I've had a CG Lock for ages; it's really really good. It does nothing for your shoulders but keeps your hips and thighs in place very well.

Looking at caging the land rover asap and the standard seats that finish below my shoulder blades would be utterly useless. Been offered some corbeau forza sport FIA things which have previously been fitted to a similar truck from a friend of mine which seem like a decent bet, especially given they're practically free. I guess it might not be so bad given my driving position compared to yours? Pretty high/ forward in the first place... Just concerned about seeing behind me really. Also with the harnesses, what kinda thickness would you recommend? 2" ones look a little a bit on the narrow side to me.
Tom Booth
3" harnesses are loaaaadsmore comfy. I found 2" harnesses dug in around my collar bone before I felt like I was supported.
george_seamons
Yeah, get 3". You get used to driving with harnesses, and adapt your approach to junctions and stuff, its not a big problem, its just a bit frustrating having to release the shoulder straps whenever you need to lean forward! If you're going to get a cage, you 100% need buckets and harnesses though, unless you want to know what it feels like to be a baseball! Revolver
Would it not be possible to have a harness and a regular seatbelt fitted? Then you can pick between depending on where you're at.

Pashley26
I'm going to make one of my bold statements that everybody says WTF?! at. Demon Shine is by far and above the best cleaning product on the market, by miles. You can buy 2L of it for £2, it's available pretty much everywhere, it comes in a squirty bottle so you don't need to dispense it or faf about and it's great at everything. As a challenge I cleaned the A3 today using nothing but Demon Shine. Plastics, cloth seats and cleaning the interior, EVERYTHING has been done with four microfibers, two buckets, one sponge and a 1L bottle of Demon Shine. Excuse the rain specs in this picture - I even cleaned the engine bay with it! Nice big gap between me and the kerb, for King C and Rich

JDâ„¢
I thought Demon Shine wasn't really a 'cleaner' as such, but more something to be lazy with when you can't be arsed or between proper cleans? Not being accusational, because I'd be up for getting a result like that off of one product...
Martin Reynolds
I thought you couldn't double post?! Weird. What is it with you and cleaning products? I swear you get your rocks off to them
Pashley26
I pretty much do yeah haha, I just love clean things. And yep JD, that's EXACTLY what it's marketed as. About two years ago Prawn mentioned he had bought a bottle and he couldn't believe how well it removed brake dust from his wheels. Usually brake dust requires a very aggressive cleaner and it isn't something you'd ever want to put on your paintwork or use in the way I use Demon Shine. I was a bit impressed by it then after cleaning Prawns wheels with it, I've religiously been using it as a quick detailing spray and general all purpose cleaner ever since. It's really really good; I always have a bottle of it in my boot and a couple of microfibers. The other day I went to SOS car meet in Newton Abbott and didn't have anything to do my grey tires with; so I used a bit of demon shine and scrubbed it into the tires to make them at least look wet. Anyway, the other week you might remember I was banging on about Megs endurance tires bullshit. Well actually Demon Shine smashes it if applied properly! Next time you see a bottle on offer get it, and a bundle of cheap microfibers. Make sure you machine wash the cloths first though otherwise they don't seem to absorb liquid and just make everything look shit.
