dann2707
Done the hangers today on the exhaust The next part is the tailpipe which I'm going to have as a v banded piece so I can add another small resonator or silencer if it's too loud as it is. Very happy!

forteh
Looking good dann33828166781m, but that looks like rather a larger cantilevered load on the hangers, I would take a diagonal tie from lower down on the silencer end cap to nearer the rubbers to take the tension and alleviate the stress risers you've welded into the silencer body Don't forget that stainless has a pretty shit fatigue life and that weld is taking a huge beating, for the sake of another 100g of stainless bar it would stiffen the design massively. Also worth bracing front to back as well? edit: a bit like my awesome paint creation (with hidden line!) dann2707
Thanks for that dude, appreciate it! It's a really good point, I'll add some more. There's another cheeky one at the top of that pic you drew, where the wall is. My intention was to do another one there also (mount is on the way)
MadManMike
Any recommendations for a temperature gauge that's accurate but doesn't cost the earth? I've seen everything from £4.99 from China, up to several hundred quid digital units...
Tom Booth
My Tim gauge in the Fairlane matches the temp via an infra red gun, no complaints really for 30 quid or whatever it was.
AdamR28
I have something similar to this on my Westfield, it's absolutely spot on and works great: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2Pcs-30-800-Celsius-Degree-Digital-Display-LED-High-Temperature-Thermometer/401500522740?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D227a5ed6e98a418a8995824c685fca63%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dco%26sd%3D163493107193%26itm%3D401500522740%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

dann2707
First and foremost let's get the important shit out of the way. Printed off a baby yoda last night look how f**king cute he is Boring stuff now, had my first crack at pie /lobster cuts for the tail pipe and I gotta say I'm impressed with the technique. Pretty much nailed it first go really. The main issue with pie cuts is getting each cut absolutely consistent so that they are the same for each piece of pie. My technique is draw a line straight down the pipe. This in itself is very hard to keep it straight and parallel with the pipe, used angle iron for that bit. Then I have to do another line exactly 180 deg from that line That involved me getting some tape and going around the pipe, folding it in half then that gives you your 180 to the first mark. Do that line. Next I put it in the band saw and made a reference mark for the line. I chose my angle of cut and did a cut. Moved the pipe 180 to the other line lining up with my reference point. That the gives you the same angle on each piece of pie. Does that make any sense? Another thing to factor is the stick out of the pipe each time to get the same length of pie. Used the fence on the band saw for that. That gave me all the pies I then tacked them in place and made a 180 and a 90 as I'm making this one a centre exit. It's hard to hold them in place for the photo but I'm sure you get the idea. Will be welding them up tomorrow and hopefully finishing the exhaust. MadManMike
Cheers guys and yeah, lol at the 800c - I think you might have a few issues if it gets to that level
dann2707
@forteh is th is what you mean? I hope so.... Hahaha Done more hangers today, and made some additional supports to them. It now hangs nicely by itself on 4 hangers.

SamKidney
Did a track day, removed short box with plated diff in favour of one with a helical lsd and oem ratios. Turning into a very nice road car.

Luke Rainbird
@Adam@TartyBikes have you ever used a company called JF Hose & Couplings? I'm currently looking around for stainless hoses (convoluted stainless inner, stainless braided outer) and they popped up in Bamber Bridge - just around the corner from TBHQ! AdamR28
Yeah I have, seemed decent guys. No frills, pretty good prices. I've used Parquip a lot in the past, they were the cheapest I could find by miles, it is very 'agricultural' stuff though.
Luke Rainbird
Oh cool, will check them out too. Realistically the friendliest cheapish supplier I find gets my money, but it made me smile when I saw the address How's the Lobster doing at the mo? Luke - Lobster has been languishing recently, been playing around with other stuff. Keen to get it out on track soon though. What have you been up to car-wise?
