Luckily no traffic around so managed to get it parked up and called recovery... New tyre fitted and off to Matlock we went as it killed out plans. On the way home the left bank head gasket has let go! Mother f**ker! It's parked now for the foreseeable, haven't got the time to sort the issues so it'll have to wait.. This was from my first track day (Blyton Park) after doing the megane 225 engine and gearbox conversion so as you can imagine it was a tentative day for me. A few things to note really: 1 - I probably wouldn't have paid for these photos from the track day as they're not AMAZING... but it's kinda sentimental as it's the first one i've done after the conversion and some are good. 2 - I was taking it fairly steady with it being my first track day after the whole overhaul of pretty much..everything. 3 - The weather was rubbish towards the end of the day but it made for some great power slides. See the video below 4 - I wish i'd cleaned my f**king intercooler! That black jizz stain is peeing me off on the photos hahas 5 - The car went really well, I have some driveshaft rubbing issues, the springs are too soft especially now it's got a heavy old lump up front and I lost my brakes at 100mph so that was fun. Overall a f**king ace shake down for the boosted mobile. 6 - No one and I mean no one looks good in an open faced helmet I look like Yoda but a fat one and i'm not even fat ffs. I'll be honest, the drive home was quite a humbling feeling knowing that i've done it all in my garage and it got me there and back and thrashed throughout. Enough waffling lets go. Not too sold on the extreme rake or 3" front wheels mind... Hopefully have a flatbed w/ crane here late this week or early next to take the shell. TROYston Posted May 9, 2018 Report Share Posted May 9, 2018 Turns out a brake pad decided to disappear along with the pin. The piston wasnt as good as slowing the car as the pad for some reason. Fitted it all back today, tightened everything, put away the tools, and the it hit me like a train, i didnt put copper slip on one of the pads. FML. Also some mong has jacked it up and what i can only presume the jack has slipped at some point. which has pushed up the floor, so going to have to get that fixed at some point, it makes jacking it up on the sill points(which are bent in also n that side, precarious. For a layer of added excitement my jack also slowly goes down but it takes it being maxed out to lift the thing high enough to take the wheel off. I 100% don't go near the car unless it's on stands. It takes one Google search of car jack collapse to read the news articles of cars falling on people to make me think wtf why would anyone even consider it? CurtisRider Posted May 10, 2018 Report Share Posted May 10, 2018 Yeah it's not worth the risk, my forearm got squashed when a jack failed (it also had a slow leak like yours). The doctor wasn't entirely sure how I didn't have any real damage apart from it looking a weird shape for a few weeks and going black. On the flip side I got my Saab onto 4 stands and just as I was adding the last stand the car fell sideways as one stand started to bend and crushed a cupboard against a wall but fortunately the car and I were unscathed.... lesson learnt, buy hydraulic drive on ramps as they are safer and you can get the car higher... oh wait I have had one of those snap too! RobinJI Posted May 10, 2018 Report Share Posted May 10, 2018 I never have much trust in putting a car on 4 axle stands. I tend to go with 2 well placed stands then something more secure. I welded up a sturdy axle stand height tressel that I use if I need to take all 4 wheels off. If 2 can stay on I tend to either just do with work one end at a time or place the other 2 wheels on something; either ramps or an old pair of wheels usually. A decent jack that lifts to a good height and rolls well enough to not drag the car towards you as it goes up is a godsend though. My 318tds now has another 12 months MOT. It only needed one front arm bush (although I changed the pair) and some trimming of the arch liners where the lower offset 5 series wheels were catching, not bad for a 19 year old £600 car that I haven't really touched for a year! FML. I've never once greased a brake pad in my life and don't know many mechanics who do either, it's personal preference and predominantly a real old school thing for no real good reason... I come back to the car 2 hours later, and it was sat on the wheel with the jack basically fully down. When regreasing the pads i just adjusted the height sensor for the air suspension to max, and then was underneath it, I like to live life on the edge. #YOLOorwhateverwasthesayingbackinday I have axle stands, but the cars weight succeeds their limit. I guess that means the jack too... Id love a proper way to do it, but when needs must thats what i got to do. Bring The Hate... Whilst I was out yesterday apparently a white van drove past my house yesterday 4 or so times, then when they parked on the 5th pass my neighbour caught them snooping round the car.
