That's with the car declared as worth £7k too. Think my area helps as I'm surrounded by weirdly big houses and a fair few amgs.
AdamR28
And having loads of mods usually helps too - they know you're going to take care of it.

Do you think that applies with most insurers or just specialist ones? Also when you change an engine do you have to get anything changed on the V5? Presumably you need the capacity to be updated, and if so how is this done?
AdamR28
Just specialist ones - that's the feedback I've had from them anyway. Literally they have told me 'If you have any more mods or plan to do them, tell me now as it will reduce your premium'. Yeah the V5 should be updated with an engine change. Well, definitely if capacity changes but in theory also if the CO2 / km changes I guess. As far as I know you just send it to the DVLA with proof of the swap and they take care of it. dann2707
Yeah that was going to be my next question actually. Its the same capacity engine just emission changes. Also covered between track days too with this policy. As in driving to and from so that's nice.
Wrayvon
Insurance on my MK is about £120. Well happy with that!

That's good to know. I insured my bike on a classic policy (it's just over 15 years old, so qualifies) and with all the mods it was about half what the more commercial insurers were charging. And actually it makes sense because as you say we're the ones who're going to take care of our vehicles.
isitafox
Golf needs 3 new tyres so I thought f**k it I'd try for some alloys off ebay with some tread on. Bagged some mk1 6 spoke TT 17's with 3 good tyres (7mm on two and 5mm on one) for £82! Need a tyre for the other now though so gonna buy a pair so they're not too mismatched/unbalanced. Tried searching but can't find any links so where's best to go? Thinking Goodyear Eagle F1's, don't need to be amazing!
SamKidney
Installed the Quaife ATB diff today in a customers FN2 Type R. Huge envy, not the style of diff I'm after for my gearbox but it would have been welcome Not too long now I hope.
Wrayvon
Gearbox question to all: In the MK if I change from 1st to 2nd at anything higher than roughly 3k revs it proper crunches going into 2nd. Doesn't do it on any other changes, including 2nd to 1st. Am I right in thinking this is a synchro issue? Thanks
AdamR28
Yup. Which box is it, Type 9? Change the fluid for a good quality semi synthetic (not fully synth) GL4 spec (NOT GL4 / 5 compatible), see if that helps first.

Jolfa
Probably no help whatsoever but MK2 Golfs are famed for 2nd gear crunch and it's always Redline MTL that comes up as the recommended (which 10 seconds on Google tells me is GL4) and I've had good experience with in the past
AdamR28
Yeah, the MT90 is good stuff, pricey but good. It's fully synth though from memory so may be too slippery for really old synchros. BGH (Google them if you've not heard of them Sam) recommend the Comma stuff for their T9s, so that would do the job nicely. Should be able to get it from local motor factors nice and cheap. Alex Dark
New roof went on the MX5 yesterday night, got a mohair with heated glass for £50. Also hopefully sorted out a sticking front caliper piston. Ibiza's all been MOT'd just waiting for a dry day to machine polish some marks out and get her listed and sold
