SamKidney
Yeh, some of us have started with a 1.3l, proper Micra. I bought what I could at the time, for under £300 I'm not going to argue

Mark W
What's with the Micra hype? Genuine question, I know little about them apart from you guys appearing to be the only people who drive them who aren't pensioners who can't drive for shit

I've only driven a Hyundai i20 diesel, Peugeot 207SW and a Citroen Picasso to compare, and they all seemed very boring. Micras are super light and bouncey and happy, and they have nice revvy little engines, plus they're dirt cheap to buy and run, fairly eco (40-45mpg in mine and I'm not that careful with it), and pretty easy to work on.EDIT: My brother also reports that his mates Micra is far more capable for green laning than his Yaris T-Sport, or the 1.2 Clio they trashed by taking it green laning. CurtisRider
Refitted some parts, waiting on an alternator bobbin and my radiator to arrive. Cleaned coolant tank and painted mounting New waterpump, painted pulley and thermostat housing Engine bay just keeps getting that little bit neater, fresh belts going on too whilst I'm there

My (so far) brief experience with small engine hatchbacks hasn't been incredible so far, although in fairness I mainly do motorway miles so having a bigger engine is the one. Mark W
The question is, before being involved with the Navy would that have been a frame of reference for you?
Muel
Fair enough. My (so far) brief experience with small engine hatchbacks hasn't been incredible so far, although in fairness I mainly do motorway miles so having a bigger engine is the one.Mine does alright on the motorway, picks up alright in top gear above 60 so fairly easy going and returns decent mpg, but there is a fair bit of wind noise. I'd rather have a Biro up my arse than a telephone pole, doesn't mean either are particularly appropriate. If my 7 years and over 10k miles on bikes has taught me anything, it's that relatively inappropriate vehicles are far more fun than appropriate ones. Fair enough. I guess I'm comparing a 1.1l Peugeot to a bunch of 2 litre petrol/turbo diesel setups so it's never going to pull quite as well. Most of the time it's just entertaining when I floor it in 5th (well, any gear really) and it just makes a lot more noise but without any perceptible change in speed, but joining dual carriageways/motorways can be dicey. HippY
I looked at an insurance for a 1.4 mk2 Fod Focus (insurance group 6) my 1.0 corsa c is insurance is 3.. and it is twice as much I need that bonus one a lot
craigjames
The question is, before being involved with the Navy would that have been a frame of reference for you? Yes. Definitely. Made some good progress with brakes and suspension yesterday, today rain stopped play for a lot of the day. But finally got everything fitted and brakes bled. Off to get laser alignment done tomorrow, might chuck a few pics up when I get home, maybe even a before and after pic..

In this car it's £21 (but £15 with my sister as a named driver too). Not complaining. Tax is half what it was on the Focus too.
dann2707
Half of my monthly outgoing for my car payments is tax And that didn't make sense because tired £23 for tax a month and £49 a month for insurance

Genuine question, I know little about them apart from you guys appearing to be the only people who drive them who aren't pensioners who can't drive for shit Aside from the typical stereotype they're associated with, they're genuinely brilliant little cars. Cheap enough not to give a toss about damaging, cheap to insure, tax and run. Incredibly reliable and surprisingly fun to drive. Think I pay £12 a month for my tax. I really, really didn't want one, but when mine cropped up for sale I needed a car and wasn't going to refuse. It's not cost me a penny aside from a £30 axle. Going to be quite sad to see it go at the end of this year, to the point where I'm considering getting some work done on it to get through another MOT next year to keep and run as a daily. I get to drive a huge amount of cars every day in my job, the Micra still manages to put a smile on my face because it's so outrageously out of the norm haha Edited July 5, 2015 by SamKidney

Jolfa
Make the most of what you have and all that. I'm learning new skills on something that I can damage without it really mattering that I can transfer onto something else down the line. All started somewhere.. Fair enough, it's just the thought of driving a 1.0 Micra with a straight through exhaust on it makes my dick shrivel. Have you no shame? MadManMike
Adam - yeah the battery isn't strapped in, so it can move around on a spirited drive... I need to find a bracket / strap that's suitable for a full size battery, as the original bracket is for the smaller battery.
