MadManMike
Car folk - probably mostly Jardo: Sheryl has a 2008 Punto Grande 1.2, it's started using quite a lot more oil and has visible leaks around the filler area - I can't describe it too well, but it's around the filler cap and some lower areas too. Is there a common place in that area that they leak? Any specific gaskets or anything? I'd say 2-3 litres has gone in the last 6 months (Baring in mind it's never really used much at all before then). No visible leaks on the floor, so it's not pouring out. Any Punto-specific ideas? george_seamons
Did it survive? Yeah, got there fine...no noises or anything unusual. ...might be selling it though haha
Mark W
Genuine question to Jardo, when you're pushing it in your Golf do you usually change gear that late? I thought on the power band graph stuff you posted a while back it peaked quite a bit below that?
Azarathal
My car peaks at 6750rpm yet I ride it to 7200 if I'm having a proper hoon so the next gear is in the sweet spot of the power band
Pashley26
Who's the bird Jardo? Just Hols. Genuine question to Jardo, when you're pushing it in your Golf do you usually change gear that late? I thought on the power band graph stuff you posted a while back it peaked quite a bit below that? If you give it a few more revs it puts you at a nice position for the next gear, and it's arguable that to get to a given speed it's quicker to hold the gear than it is to change. Depends what I'm doing, usually I change gear at about 6500RPM.
Mark W
Yeah, I thought going over it was going to be beneficial in that sense, I was just thinking from memory it was early/mid 5k's on the power band so going almost 2k above that might be less than ideal. That's cool though

Pete.M
Anything to consider when looking at a car with a fiat diesel jtd engine? Worked on those Mr Kidney? Thinking about getting an Alfa 156 diesel as a daily in the future.

Joe Sheehan
Bought this today. Too scene for my own good! E46 330D in 'comedy gold', 114k miles, FSH, EGR delete, straight through exhaust with decat, K&N panel, remap and coil-overs. Pretty happy with it for £1600.. Just needs the rust treating, wheel refurb, the window trims changing from chrome to black and then get it RR'd to see what the AFR is like and the power figures. Love driving it though, ultra smooth and torquey! Sounds like a truck on full whack. Oh and the rear needs raising, bounces off the bump stops with a couple of my pals in the back so it's kinda like a bouncy castle. Stuck with my friends megane R26 which is stage 1 so I'm happy! Also gets 60mpg at 70mph, and 80mpg at 60mph. Been hooning about this weekend and still averaging ~43mpg. Happy! SamKidney
Anything to consider when looking at a car with a fiat diesel jtd engine? Worked on those Mr Kidney? Thinking about getting an Alfa 156 diesel as a daily in the future. Providing you have proof the cam belts been done and it seems fairly dry in terms of oil leaks, which they seem to be prone for as they get on a bit, they're not bad engines at all. Serviced some with a hideously high mileage and they seem to run well. Fiat use a JTD variant in their older Ducato vans and again they see minimal/poor service intervals with contractors and do the job. But yeah, Alfas, electrics = matter of time Edited May 10, 2015 by SamKidney

Mark W
<Insert dick length compensation joke here> Are you going to go for the fully stripped down look, i.e. no windscreen and all that jazz? The only thing I wasn't super keen on with some of the stripped out MX-5s I've seen is the way the roll cage/bar ends up having to sit super high up above the car so it looks sort of disproportionate. That's a pretty minor thing though, and it's obviously better to know you're not going to mash yourself into the road if you decide to stop hunting down supercars and start doing barrel rolls instead. AdamR28
That's the plan! I agree the roll bars look a bit stupid with how high up they have to be to ensure giraffes like Stan can drive safely, but a small price to pay as you said.
