bought a bmw 523i 2.5 petrol not long ago,

engine management light is on, when cold starting it wont rev above 3k, jerky as a pig if you do drive it cold, almost feels like its trying to cut out

when its warm it feels boggy as anything in high revs, doesn't accelerate like it should, nor when your revving it the revs are sluggish on comedown

every now and then i get a catastrophic banging noise coming from the engine bag

any suggestions? ive has a new in-take fuel pump put in as a mouse had some fun!

Not that I want to scare you, but I've had the very same issue that continued to reoccur on a customers motor. Poor starting when cold, obvious misfire, down on power etc...

BM engines are good for slipping timing chains if they've not already had one, to the point where they either won't run at all or run very poorly. My example had bits of the timing chain guides that had broken away drawn into the oil pump assembly and was holding open the oil pressure relief valve. We put it down to not supplying adequate oil pressure to the variable cam pulleys / chain tensioner and as a result it was throwing the cam timing out enough to both alter the fueling (phase sensor controls this off the cam) where it wouldn't Fire correctly or overfueled so badly on startup it would bore wash the cylinders and the engine would lose compression.

I had to disassemble the oil pump and fit a new timing chain before the problem was resolved.

I bought a ko4 manifold in ceramic coating and fixings. New ferodo brake pads and ebc discs all round. And a badger5 tip v2.2.

Next is dp, sports cat and cat back. Then a map.

Excited!

Turns out I have now bought dp, sports cat and cat back. quite abit of money now, but Im hoping will make it awesome for the foreseeable future.

Best get these bits fitted!

Right I need a bit of help! I have been driving since I was 18 and never had to buy a tyre. I now have a car that needs them! I'll be putting a pair on as one is a Goodyear and the other a michelin, and there both getting a bit scrubbed off. Tracking will be done when I get them fitted.

Just want to know what tyres will last and not break the bank.

Had a look on camskill as its close. theres some Nankangs that are cheap. done a quick google search and have good reviews. anyone had experience with them? or can reconment me a suitable alternative. Size is 205/40/18

Cheers.

Probs best PM me as I dont really check this thread! :D

Thanks for the reply, always appreciated.

crikey, that sounds bad, i'm new to BM engine so its a learning curve

investigated today, unplugged the MAF & ran a hell of a lot better, turns out one of the prongs has snapped off! coil packs all off same with the spark plugs, the loud knocking turned out to be secondary radiator fan protector bent in, hence knocking on the fan when it kicked in.

Not so bad then! Symptoms sounded identical to the issue I had so thought I'd throw my two cents in. :)

Wonder if we can persuade Nick to lend us his pit/knowledge for an afternoon to get exhausts fitted to LCRs :P

I'll need 2 days on separate weekends to do the manifold, tip and brakes

I've already spoken to Nick, fortunately he was willing to help!

Can't wait to get these bits fitted!

TIP is mega quick and easy - go and do it RIGHT NOW.

Edit: You're on a v2.2, tad more to it with the billet adapter than my v3. Tomorrow...

Also, I'm now in Hampshire. Up to Guildford tomorrow evening with work but then I'm slacking it off most evenings. Shall have to catch up and play cars.

What's happening on Wednesday? May be possible, so long as I don't have to sleep with some mid-fifties Indian munter...

Sounds good to me.

Nothing much, I was thinking I could order Dominos and drink beer. You're welcome to join.

Pit is always available to you chaps :) I can't always guarantee my time to help, but if you ever want to crack on with anything yourself it's always there.

For Ash's Zorst setup, I think the most sensible thing to do is fit the turbo back first. Given that the stock DP has to be cut out, we're letting a cat into a decat system, and the tailpipe will need tweaking to suit the LCR, I think a full day will be needed for that realistically. Then another early-late full day to whip the manifold off and fit the V4. it's no small job :'(

In other news, BGW-V2 and sideskirts are now on:
