The Car Thread

The shape does lend itself to generating lift. From the side you're basically dealing with an aerofoil where you're getting flow going faster and creating lift over the top. If it's lowered more flow will be forced over the top so compounding that effect. Adding roof bars will screw up that flow to an extent and potentially reduce lift induced by the upper surfaces of the car. Not beyond reason that at higher speeds it will change the lift characteristics.

I'm skint.

Oh, and I nearly died.

Honestly terrifying down the M25/23 yesterday, couldn't see what lane I was in for most of the drive. Wiper motor hasn't worked for nearly 2 years, but it started smoking yesterday when the rain got into it so had to cut through the live with my house keys while I was on the move. Exciting.

I'm flying to Milan for three days in the morning, then staying at the W Hotel in Leicester square on Saturday night in some all expenses swanky 'arsehole' party.

I'm tempted to skip the flight, have 4 days off work and play with the Golf :giggle:

You know it makes sense!

(In the "I haz new car, me play" sense that is ;) )

Here's an interesting/ not so interesting one.

There's always been an urban legend that ANPR can't read black and white/ black and silver plates or pressed/ raised characters. Went over yesterday afternoon and nothing's shown up on my account yet, so there might actually be some truth in being invisible... Free crossings r us.

Superb, who wants odds on when it breaks/you sell it????

Got all the bits to service the Yaris so that's my job for the end of the week which should hopefully smoothen things up a bit, I literally cannot believe I forgot how fun it is to drive a slow car. Best of all the handling of this thing is like a go kart, pretty sure I'm gonna run it for a year till the MOT is up, get it through that then swap for a T Sport for a bit more fun. Or depending on how the job is going I might try to get another ITR..... :shifty:

Car is over the pit for MOT as we speak. Hoping there won't be anything major hauled up but given the incompetence of matey who owned it before me I won't hold my breath. Be nice to know exactly what I'm working with though as I've not been able to give it a properly thorough going over myself yet.

Place odds, my first one was so rotten it wasn't worth the time of day, my Corsa was a flop and my Micra has been superb. I've not "sold" a car yet per say. I've wanted one too long to even consider selling it.

Though it might break. My micra broke a month after owning it.

Also, T sports are ace. Great little cars!

Not sure if you guys remember the Audi A3 1.8T me and my girlfriend (now ex) had. There was an issue with the car using lots of oil, this has got worse and worse and so I advised her to see the VAG specialist I had look at my Porsche. It turns out the newer 1.8Ts and 2.0Ts (09 onwards) are quite different to the ones most of you have and were fitted with laser cut piston rings wearing at a fast rate, these are now causing many folk troubles. The engine requires removal and most bottom end parts replaced, parts alone price up as being over £3500. It is actually cheaper to buy a complete brand new engine and have that fitted, so this is what she is looking to do as the cars worth f**k all in its current state. Something for people to consider if they are looking at VAG cars of that age with those particular engines fitted as apparently Audi are getting quite a few in now (they have 12 brand new engines in stock in the UK, that suggests this must be a common issue!)
