Pete.M
Can't remember if you said, but do you know what caused your turbo to die?
dann2707
I feel so f**king guilty as I've just done the worst downshift of my life in order to overtake someone Was in 3rd or 4th and dropped to 2nd whilst forgetting to rev match. f**k my f**king bumall, car jolted to f**k and the worst sound ever. Tempted to upload the video as I got it on my dashcam obviously but I don't want people to think bad of me Was so shocking, lesson learnt that's for sure. It's weird though as when rev matching, with my metro just a little blip of the throttle would send it up in the high rev range but with this it seems like it takes ages :/ not sure if that's a timing / dephaser issue
MadManMike
Post it! We all make stupid mistakes, I overtook a cyclist on the way home and underestimated the speed he was going - ended up booting it hard to get past before the oncoming car, was a close one to say the least.
dann2707
Realised I had a few more revs left of that gear too woops. Car in front was nice, thought it was an R32 with the dual exhausts but a check tells me it's a gti turbo (200bhp), didn't even know they did them with that body kit. Nice. Pashley26
What's wrong with that?! - I probably removed 20bhp's worth or wiring today. I hate wiring, I hate it I hate it I hate it! What I hate more is removing over complicated shot wiring, that's all the same colour because whoever wired it in was either colour blind or full special. This beautiful two wire pressure switch... Is replacing this contraption of pure evil...cut from the car it was infecting with it's leeching wiring. Methanol, boost, low EGT's and IAT's, and FLAMES. Pashley26
Faster mean piston speed than an F1 car, it can take an over rev. Relax.
Jolfa
Not sure if srs with that video, that was the most average down shift ever, if you consider that something wild you must drive like my mum Perhaps if you'd dropped a gear and hit the limiter and not had any more revs to give... I've done that a few times and not really thought anything of it.
MartMini
i have seen the effects of downshifting incorrectly. from 4th to first in a sprinter van.... lets just say we was picking the con rods up off the road. Theres only so much aa rev limiter can take
Jake.
Can't remember if you said, but do you know what caused your turbo to die? Oil pressure was partly to blame, vacuum line needed redoing and turbo had bad remanufacuring. All that alongside excessive boost pressure not being able to escape caused it I think.

JD™
Been driving around with another broken front drop link for god knows how long, after I replaced them a couple of months back. My new "HEAVY DUTY" ones have turned up, along with a set of wishbone bushes. Let's see if we can finally make this car behave so I can drive it with some confidence... EDIT: Dananananaykroyd, don't worry too much about that downshift – obviously could've been better but certainly not the worst I've seen or done! Jake.
5 new toyo tyres turned up, one for the spare as that had no tread too hahaha. Old ones were a f**king joke, one had 0.7mm tread! New oil line fitted, tested alternator as was making weird noise but seems to be running fine. Hopefully taking it for a drive at last when I get back from work Can't believe how much has been done and I've only pretty much driven it home from when I bought it haha. I WANT TO DRIVE! Oh and the cigarette lighter stopped working. New one or new fuse time methinks.
craigjames
I'm glad i wasn't the only one that thought that Dan's video didn't look that bad. If i jolted that much have you checked the engine and gearbox mounts?
AdamR28
Ah yes, pretty common for them to go on those Clios. Check the dogbone from the box to the chassis too, mine had slipped complete off!
011001000110010101110010
Wheel cleaning... Talk to me goose. Car currently has THE softest pads on in the world. I am pretty sure they are DS2500... The result is after a couple of days of light use the wheels need a clean! Changing to AP discs and Pagid RS4-2 pads shortly but what's peoples generally recommendations for wheel cleaning? I currently basically have to take the wheels off and use wonder wheels to looses the grime and a sponge and water to wipe it all off. Maybe I'm just a poof Well if you're dropping a gear with a view to speeding up, you generally wanna accelerate as you do so otherwise it will jerk
David
I am tempted to do a few mods to the Cupra (Re-map, 3" exhaust, FMIC?) However, I am now reading horror stories of bent conrods? Is it all worth it? I'm not looking for crazy power,~230bhp sounds good to me. What can the standard clutch take? Edit: Just realised that Ebay exhaust I keep asking about is a de-cat system (derr!) so I assume it will fail an MOT emissions test? trialsiain
Looking at an 05 polo with 79000 miles. for £1500. Is that a reasonable price? Only problem is that it needs a lambda sensor and the bonnet flew up and dented so maybe new bonnet? Should I give it a miss ? All the other 05 polos from dealers are all like 2-3K
