Pashley26
Nope, great cars. Although, I know how hard it is to make a plan and stock to it. So I would urge you to only consider a 330CI Clubsport, as they won't ever drop much more than they are now. And may even go up. Club sports are MUCH MUCH MUCH nicer to drive than the stock E46 330. People on my favourite forums even compare them to M3's in capable hands, joking that most people who have M3's only drive them to 50% of their potential because most can't drive for shit. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-330-Ci-Clubsport-2003-53-/121215198335?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1c38fd247f Edited January 7, 2014 by Pashley26
JD™
I've seen some M Sports about, I assume that's another level down from the club? I definitely wouldn't be getting the stock one, that's for sure.
Pashley26
M sport is just a branding thing, mechanically they have stiffer lower suspension and standard cars came with a half leather half alcantara interior. Clubsports are lighter, have less sound deadening, alcantara steering wheel (most have been sold/robbed), special Clubsport style split rims, black window trims, fake carbon interior and quite cool is the red speedo needles. People "claim" the shift was different, I don't see it. I've driven CS and CI models, both with about 100k. Couldn't tell the difference. 10bhp more, 300rpm more, shorter final drive, negative front camber, stiffer front roll bar and apparently stiffer lower arm ball joints (doubt it). I SERIOUSLY looked at getting one, and to be honest I still really want one. Lightly stripped with some tidy buckets and a huge set of slicks... Greetings
Well my dad is back from the UK in his newly purchased Amazon 123GT (with a flat on the rear ). I urged him not to do the 1000+ mile journey in one go since he's 76 years old but he did it anyway. This is his old Volvo And the current one: Got tonnes of Wall's pork sausages, HP sauce, Bovril and Salt&Vinegar chips. Going off my diet for the time being.
Pashley26
I love that. More than I love your m3! Cracking car. You driven it yet?
MadManMike
Managed to get my insurance to £704, for 12 months. The previous quotes were for 10 months, so that's a bargain!
Luke Rainbird
Who's that with dude? I assume you've checked with all the usual modification-friendly folk?
MadManMike
Admiral. They seem to be £400 cheaper than everywhere else. I'm only just coming up to my second year of driving, so insurance will still be pretty high. With 200bhp declared, I don't think that's a bad choice. I've tried PerformanceDirect and a couple of others, any I might have forgotten about?
Luke Rainbird
Admiral were a little hit and miss when I spoke to them about mods before, though certainly better than many. If they're cool with it though that's wicked. I'm with Greenlight who were great (I'm paying just under £400 with them) but I know a lot of people use Brentacre/Flux too so probably worth asking for a quote from them on the off chance. AdamR28
Brentacre have come up with a mega quote for me a couple of times on performance / modified cars, worth a call
Prawny Baby
I've heard great things about Brentacre too. i tried them for the A3 this year, but they were almost £300 north of the quote from greenlight sadly, who were not at all phased by the power output or covering all mods fully comp like for like! AdamR28
Yeah, I'd try Greenlight if they didn't have a 'no policies for PR6 addresses' policy
george_seamons
Brentacre wouldn't cover me because of the claim due to the crash in my work van Sky ended up coming up trumps with me though. £560 all mods declared, including the mater/meth injection. Very happy with that price...it's nearly £200 cheaper than I paid this year, and that was with no claims, and a less powerful car!
MadManMike
Cool, I'm giving all these people a go - shame they don't do instant quotes though! Greenlight refused to quote because it's previously Cat C.
dann2707
Isn't £2000 a lot for a cat C car that's covered in dents mate?
Jake.
Hi guys. Caddy is having another MOT this Saturday. Hope it passes this time, slightly doubtful. If it doesn't I'm taking it to a garage to get them to do everything to finish it off. First question, the weld on the sill has gone silly orange from rain. Shall I just smooth this down and put a cover of metal over it and if they ask I'll say the guy who welded it wanted to smarten it up. They can't go pulling things apart right? Second, would I be allowed to drive to the garage with no MOT, with the intention of getting the car sorted for mot? Guessing it's a no. Cheers. MadManMike
Isn't £2000 a lot for a cat C car that's covered in dents mate? Not really, it's a £4,500 car that I can tidy up for not that much. If I wanted a tidy one, I'd need about £4k, which I don't have.

Yeah, you can drive without tax or test to get to or from an MOT, and/or place where work is to be carried out for an MOT. It needs to be pre-booked at the garage though, so should the cops pull you over you've got proof that you are on your way to where you say you are. Obviously it has to be in a 'roadworthy' condition though, but then that goes for using any car at any time. As for the weld, do you mean it's had welding done, but that the bare metal's now starting to rust from being outside? If it's solid metal then surface rust doesn't matter, I'd be inclined to just give it a good clean up with a wire brush to get the surface rust off, then after the MOT fill/paint it how you'd like. If it's an actual hole, then yeah, they're not allowed to dig around, all they can do is lightly tap it with a really small hammer, any repair (or partly rusted metal) that will still withstand this is ok from an MOT point of view. Jake.
Cheers for that info on garage, I knew about driving the mot centre but wasn't sure about garage. Yeah me and my Dad welded it a few weeks ago then it rained heavy, a mate looked at it and said it should be fine.. Just looks real rough haha. We've smacked it with a hammer since and it's not falling off, just don't want them to look at it and be like holy f**k that's a shitty job. Will slap a picture on... Brb. If you're happy it's stuck well smear some thick seam sealer over the welds, it'll seal them up and help them last, as well as covering up what it looks like, then it'd probably be worth chucking some paint on to keep it rust free. MadManMike
Fair enough mate, as long as you're happy too Got any other plans for it? Literally all I'm going to do to it is take the badges off and add deflectors. No mods planned, it's just going to be my battered rocket haha I might try and tidy up the exterior over time, but I'm not too fussed. haydon_peter
What happened to it in order for it to be a Cat C? Depending on how old the vehicle was at the time of the accident Cat C can be pretty nasty damage. Like you have found out some insurance companies won't cover a previously written off vehicle so whenever you get quotes always contact the company and make sure they know about the Cat C. The cheap quotes you are getting online are all well and good but they will be useless if you have to make a claim and they then check records and find out about the write off and decide they won't cover you!
