Prawny Baby
Prawn's car is so epic, I love cars which have undergone proper evolution and weren't just built from scratch.Cheers dude, much appreciated I realised yesterday, I've been bombinb around in this A3 for over 7 years now. It's kind of part of the furnature, yet so incredibly different to those early days!New turbo setup feeling very very good indeed so far
CurtisRider
Car looks great Prawn! So after a few week holiday I was itching to get back to work on the Porsche! It welcomed me with a flat battery... Several parcels arrived whilst I was away, mostly to get the thing working again ready for the MOT, but some bits were to make the car look pretty The first job was to change the distributer cap and rotor as mine were both a bit iffy, the car seems to be running slightly smoother Then a Transformers tax disc holder, awwww yeaaaah! I then proceeded to redo the alternator wiring loom as I had been told this may be the cause of the battery draining. The wiring was all in very good condition but I have rewired and rerouted it anyway, recycling some of the heat shielding and then whacking in some cable sheathing to neaten up the wiring in the engine bay Then onto the front valance, this was VERY twisted up and bent all over the place, I straightened it out the best I could, welded up the splits, welded in 2 new brackets and gave it a light skim of filler to smooth it out. It isn't quite there yet, but ill revisit it later when I get more paint, for now it looks a heck of alot tidier! And alpine white instead of the dirt engrained white before I made an adjustable top link with rose joints for the rear gear lever, this has reduced some of the slop at the shifter and made it easier to get into 5th. To my surprise the front shifter has no noticeable wear to it, I need to remove the rear shifter assembly completely at some point and rebuild it. I removed the bump strips, this revealed that the N/S has had a respray on the lower half, so it looks like I will have to get sanding, sort out a few rust spots and dents, weld up the hole where the aerial is and give the side a respray. At least it looks marginally better as it is compared to the strips which were falling off! The O/S looks fine. Hope to get the valance back on today, and then I need to grab 2 new tyres. CurtisRider
Fitted the valance, front end is looking so much better! Next step is to sort the front panel and headlight covers out and try and touch in the wing where the paint came off This is how it looked before: Edited August 12, 2013 by CurtisRider
Tom Booth
I know the reasons it's there and it's a function over form deal, but is there nothing else you can do other then that spoiler prawnus?? I love everything else about your car but that! Possible diffuser???
Azarathal
So admiral quoted me £1.4k for a '94 Mk2 mr2 rev3 (2l n/a), Adrian flux said £3.2k and Hastings (my current insurer) quoted £3.6k, what's the chances of Hastings bringing it down closer to admirals quote if I get on the phone? Currently paying £900 for a 1.4 city rover so they'd get an extra £500 from me and paid in full (currently been with them for a month paid monthly) Anywhere else I could try for insurance? I'm 20 with 1years no claims and 2yrs9m driving without any claims

I love everything else about your car but that! Possible diffuser??? It's already in the works There's been a few phone and facebook conversations discussing underbody aero for the Audi. Should be awesome. (Well, more awesome) So admiral quoted me £1.4k for a '94 Mk2 mr2 rev3 (2l n/a), Adrian flux said £3.2k and Hastings (my current insurer) quoted £3.6k, what's the chances of Hastings bringing it down closer to admirals quote if I get on the phone? I'm 20 with 1years no claims and 2yrs9m driving without any claims Chances are pretty good, I've always found insurers to be very flexible if you're nice on the phone. Unless you luck out and get a silly cheap quote, or you're mr average driving an average family car, the phone will always save you money with insurance. The Scirocco got some love over the weekend. A little driveshaft clearance was added and the front coil-overs wound down ~10mm to get the car sitting a bit better (it's been slightly nose up for ages.) Currently at ~70mm clearance under the lowest points, with 90+ under most of the car, which is what I consider about spot on. The difference isn't striking but I think it's helped. My boost pipes are currently all on the washing line. I finally fixed my broken dip-stick tube and gave my engine bay a good clean to get rid of all the oil it had sprayed everywhere, and against the clean bay the boost pipes mixture of not-very-polished aluminium and flakey-painted-rusty steel looked hideous. They've all got a nice coat of etch primer and satin black now, which will hopefully help how it looks under there. Also, I fitted a mega-'80s rear-sunstrip 'turbo' sticker at lunch today. Probably quite marmite, but I think it's pretty in keeping with the cars looks. I'm very much trying to go with a period look at the moment, but with the modern tech under the bonnet. This is all in preparation for Retro Rides Gathering, which is this weekend Best show of the year for me by a mile, mostly because of the drunken camping with a great bunch of people, but also because of the massive variety of seriously cool cars that's always there. RobinJI
Photos! Sunstrip (still not sure about it, but it is quite in keeping, and it was only a quid, and it's the 'self cling' sort, so can be removed/refitted in seconds): Engine bay before (after cleaning, before painting the pipes): Engine bay after (forgot my camera didn't have a memory card in it, hence the crap phone picture!):
t-comp-kierz
Can anyone recommend a decent head unit with built in Bluetooth for under £100?
Dan6061
A few from my Instagram as my DSLR is broken... @dan6061 Front plate is in the window for now because I FINALLY have my S4 bumper back from paint! Went to fit it, and found out that my stupid facelift A4 bumper brackets are different! So I've had to order some different ones which should be here next week some time. Stance y0! Edit: Here's one of the S4 bumper: I still need the side grills too, which is proving to be difficult to find 2nd hand! Might have to just bend over and pay £55 for new ones. JD™
Done a thousand miles in this at just around the national speed limit over the past week, glad this happened now on a straight road at 30!Dunno why that's upside down, but you get the idea... JD™
Haha, yea. I thought the wheel had fallen off! Car people: what's this most likely to be? I have a free weekend so I'd rather do it myself if its within my capabilities.. In case it helps, on the low side I can see the springs of the suspension and on the normal side I can't. Is that just a collapsed strut, or a wishbone or something? I don't know what I'm talking about, but I don't mind getting dirty if its doable. On the other hand, if you know it's going to be a ball ache I'd rather know so I can put it in a garage.

Duncy H
Does look rather cool. I'd say snapped spring for a wild guess? I've finally found an ideal van at the right price but its all the way down in Worthing! Long trip ahead possibly.
AdamR28
It looks broken (and stupid)... Because it is! Snapped spring is my guess too, another chap I know has one and apparently it's fairly common.
JD™
I most certainly doesn't look cool! Bring on normal ride height again... I just bought a couple of struts and springs which should be here by Friday hopefully so I can get it sorted over the weekend. Typical that this is a working week where I was planning to use the car more than usual! Ne'er mind...
