haydon_peter
The front tyres on my car were very low and one had worn on the inside edge (so bad it was illegal *cough*) so I got some new ones fitted today. The tracking was also out so I got that sorted as well. The car drives so much better now! The worn tyres were Kumho's and the new tyres are Falken ZE914's. Quieter, smoother, car now corners nicer, bumps in the road don't feel so harsh, really happy!
davey1991
You may not like shiny stupid heavy wheels but you do have good taste in nice light ones, that looks very very capable the bronze sets it off nicely.Alfa has alfaitis getting very hot, not overheating but leaking water somewhere, running down the engine mount, its probably just seeping through the block knowing the bloody thing. Martin Reynolds
Anyone know the regs on wheels sticking out of arches? I've always believed that 3/4 of the tyre had to be covered?
Boumsong
I always thought all tread had to be under the 'arch'.
Dan6061
Up to 30mm protruding, but the tread has to be covered by the arch. There's a bit of a grey area in the laws on tyre fitment... there's not actual rule (from what I can find!) on what size tyre goes on what size rim, only recommendations by the manufacturers. Which is how I have 215/45R17s fitted to my 10J wheels. On another note, I finally sorted the limp mode problem on the Audi! I fitted a de-cat pipe, and gave the EGR valve a good clean. On top of everything else I've done to try and solve it, hopefully it will be running sweet for a long time now! Got some EGR delete blanking plates on the way too, so that will stop the intake and turbo getting clogged up with crap again! Not bad for 185k miles!
davey1991
EGR valves are a pain in the backside, such a poorley executed idea, in most cases they end up causing more problems than they solve.Had to clean/ replace one on an X-type jag, Transit connect, Transit van, Audi A5 which was only 15k miles old!!!This is all within 4 months, i understand the principle, its a great idea, but why oh why have so many companies failed too see how badly they fail...Rant over.In other news... Alfa is still leaking.
Pashley26
Fingers crossed the A3 will be fixed today. #optimistic.

Luke Rainbird
Good stuff. All running as it was before?
Pashley26
Running better than ever, much smoother than it was a lots more torque. Must have been on its way out before mapping. Got to Phils ready to fit this - Out with the old - The block ready to take the new head - It's obviously been running perfectly, everything's a great colour and there is no bore wear or markings. This is totally as the old head came off after the gasket was removed - All bores and pistons were in good condition - A few det marks here maybe, but this is the cylinder which dropped two coil packs in a week... New head on - New pumps and tensioners - Timing marks - Gates Powergrip belt - The turbo and manifold are cracked to f**k - But otherwise, it's all back together and spot on! It's given me a huge reality check, I need to get rods, high comp pistons and new rings in it ASAP now. I don't want all this worry about a bent rod ever again! :beerchug:
Prawny Baby
turbo looks fine dude, that's in good condition compared to most! Today was amazing, properly awesome day. Me, George, Adam, and BigAl, and a whole load of high speed fun! Car went really really well, and I absolutely did NOT spin Tartys MX5 with Claire in the passengers seat.... :$

AdamR28
Today was amazing, properly awesome day. Me, George, Adam, and BigAl, and a whole load of high speed fun! Car went really really well, and I absolutely did NOT spin Tartys MX5 with Claire in the passengers seat.... :$ Yeah, quality day today! Good to see you again dude. Glad the car went well. Didn't seem to have any issues at all? You need to make Oulton a reality sometime And then I can drive your car on a circuit I know It was pretty manly by the way, felt very chunky and the torque was awesome! Haha, it's absolutely fine, she's not bothered at all, and those tyres are f**ked anyway Currently exporting a vid... Will bang it up when done. Have one following your dad if you wanna see that too? What are you dragging the trailer with Adam? Mx5s do look tempting, shame I don't have the spare pennies yet! It's a Trafic van, seems to 'slipstream' fairly well, no problems with MPG today That's not helping my urge for an MX5. Prawn can tell you how good they are I didn't mean "UBER LOWS STANCE 111!!!" kinda low, I just mean slightly lower and wider than standard wheels. Definitely considering one next, though there's a few cars in the running for that title Haha, I getcha, that's ok then They are great fun, but not very practical... A good friend of mine in work has just bought an MX5 track car, has said I can used it for airfield days and shit whenever I want. I'll get some pics up on Monday Sweet - look forward to seeing it! Jolfa
Ah it was that Donington track day wasn't it, should have twigged that it was the one mentioned in this thread when I was watching all the cars roll past at the end of the day, as I was at my mates house at the bottom of the hill pissing around fitting coilovers to his A3

Gandalf the Yellow
OK, as people said we're lacking photos here's couple of pics of mine from today, got lamp replaced as they came cracked when I got the car... replaced some bulbs, thought I'd try yellow fogs, will rarely use them anyway, kind of like them myself but probably not to everyone's taste. - confession, I had to lightroom the colour a little as it didn't look as yellow as it does in the flesh New front rubber, some sort of Falkens, 5mm front spacers (temporary) to clear coilovers... and 20mm rear hubcentrics to fill the arch gap a little. Stance/poke haters look away now. few of Tris' and Dan's Steve

Dan6061
Another pic of mine from today: I got some cheapo main beam bulbs which are a nice white light instead of yellow! So it all matches with the HID's and the sidelights. I fixed my limp mode problem at last too! Fitted a de-cat pipe and cleaned the EGR valve (will be deleted soon!) and it seems to have done the trick! We have a strange electrical problem with Steve's light. The main beam bulb on the driver's side doesn't work. We've changed the bulb over, checked the connections, checked the fuse, and it still doesn't work! It's a replacement headlight from a slightly older model, but we even swapped all the wiring from the old light as we knew it worked, and still nothing! Really strange. Any ideas!? Duncy H
Anybody know a way of confirming a cv joint is on its way out? I'm fairly sure mine is as it knocks on turning but want confirmation and want to know which one it is before splashing some cash. What sort of price so you guys pay on average at a track day? Is there loopholes or ways of getting them on the cheap?
LiamWood!
What sort of price so you guys pay on average at a track day? Is there loopholes or ways of getting them on the cheap? Booking them well in advance is always cheaper, is for me at Cadwell.
