Putting The Feelers Out - Trials Festival Near Preston, End Of August?

Hello all,

I've been asked by Joe at Cuerden Valley Park to put the feelers out regarding a possible trials weekend at the park.

They have run trials events as part of their yearly festival for the past 2 years, but this year it has been called off due to waterlogged fields.

So, instead, he wants to run a weekend event, probably 25/26th August.

Cuerden Valley Park is just near J29 of the M6, postcode PR5 6BY.

The green area is where the event would be, orange is Sainsbury's, red are the train stations. Everything is within a mile of each other which is handy! We are also very close by so would be on hand to help Joe during setup and may be able to nip to the shop up for half an hour or so for any replacement parts needed over the weekend.

Initial thoughts are:

- 2-day event (possibility of camping over Friday night too if anyone would prefer), with full itinerary made before the weekend so you know what's going on and when.

- Camping on site, with showers and toilets.

- DJ on the Saturday night, possibly with beer tent.

- Fish & Chip van or Hog Roast or Burger van Saturday night (Fish & Chips favourite idea at the moment).

- Bigger and better riding than previously, split into distinct areas; beginner (flat/square obstacles on a firm car parking area), advanced (more angled and tricky stuff on a slightly less flat bit of land) and 'streety' (kickers, flat banks, etc on tarmac), but all 3 areas right next to each other. Joe has contacts for cars, skips, cable spools, scaffolding, flatbed trailer, etc so with enough notice he can get plenty of stuff!

- Hoping to get 1-hour coaching slots available on each of the days (just need to bribe Stan, Cap, etc with some cake/biscuits).

- If people want to do it, we could have a mini speed trial on the Saturday night after the beers have been flowing, with prizes.

- And the best bit, the event would be completely FREE for everyone (although cars may need to pay ~£4 parking for the weekend which would go directly to the park, I need to chat to Joe about that. And you'll need to buy your own food of course!).

Anyone up for that? Realistic ideas/suggestions also welcome :)

Cheers,

Agreed with a charity donation, damn good idea!

Harking back to the fire issues at tartydays last year, is there likely to be a repeat? Well obviously there will be some sort of combustion based entertainment but I'm guessing that there won't be such twattish security guards to ruin the fun?

Unfortunately I'm busy that weekend but sounds like a great event if all goes to plan :)

The bill would be picked up by Tarty in order to make the event free, but if you guys wanted to donate to a charity, that would be awesome! Hopefully the park would be able to nominate one :)

In terms of combustion-based fun, that is something Joe and the park would need to discuss, I'll ask him. I mentioned that people would definitely want some sort of fire initially though. In terms of security, it would be pretty relaxed I think, but you would have to bear in mind that the event wouldn't happen again if things got too messy and disturbed any local residents.

This isn't a 'Tarty Days 2012' by the way, just an idea that Joe had that hopefully we might be able to help out with. I think having as many trials events as poss can't be a bad thing, and one 'up North' is ideal for those who can't get down to Radfest. Joe had the idea, access to the venue, the riding kit, but not the contacts or funds - we have no venue or riding kit, but do have the contacts and funds, so hopefully that combo will work.

Credit to Joe for organising an event like this and the tarty guys for helping :).

The park IS a charity, we get no external funding from the government or anything, all the money we have comes from donations and grants so if you WANT to donate we would be EXTREMELY happy to accept it, plus it'll more than likely tickle my bosses fancy to let us keep doing it =)

just a suggestion ;) all proceeds would go directly to the park, not filling my pockets =)
