Aii_Aitch
So I've got a HS33 and it was bled using water a while back and now one of the pistons doesn't retract properly. I think it's the piston in the lever that doesn't work, but I'm not sure how I can test. But my hunch is that it's the lever piston because apparently that can expand when waterbled? So my question is how do I get to the piston to dry it out and then re-bleed with mineral oil?
Aii_Aitch
bump?
Alex Dark
The piston has swelled, youre right in saying that but unfortunately the only way around this is to remove the o-ring and sand the piston down until the diameter is small enough for free movement in the cylinder Tarty Adam will probably be along shortly to explain why. Edit: For the scientific explanation, click http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/163793-using-water-and-got-sticky-pistons/page__hl__sticky+pistons Edited May 15, 2012 by Alex Dark
Aii_Aitch
Tarty Adam will probably be along shortly to explain why. Hahah. So how do I take it all apart? I can remove the lever and the hose, but then I'm still stuck with the body around the piston.
dann2707
Which HS33 model/year is it?
Aii_Aitch
I have no idea. I think it's a 2004 model. It's very metallic and has no coating of paint or whatever it is like the 2005s do. No red TPA, it has a screw on the lever blade.
dann2707
Ahh right that's easier for you. What you need to do is remove the bleed screw from the lever body, and poke an allen key through the hole to poke the piston out. Apparently you might be able to shrink the piston by heating it up and evaporating the water molecules. When mine does this i'm trying this method in the oven. Aii_Aitch
Oh, sorted. It's gonna take quite a poke, it's less sticky piston and more stuck there and wont budge. I'll do it in a bit. should be revising right now...
dann2707
Spray some wd40 down that small hole if you can to loosen it up. Should help out a bit. and me too hah.
