If 6061-T6 is right then it'll weld fine, but the area around the weld won't be heat treated to T6 specification anymore, so won't be as strong unless it's re-heat treated. It'll need to be TIG welded using an appropriate grade of filler rod.

(In terms of filler rods, in case your friend needs to know, 6061's made up of 1% magnesium, and around 0.6% Chromium, Copper and Silicon.)

My bro got his frame welded at pro welding company and it cracked after 5min of riding right next to the weld. And I´m sure it was only because of lack of heat treating.

It could well do, like I said, the area around the weld won't be T6 heat treated anymore, so it may well be weaker than before.

It will weld fine though, in that you can make a good strong weld on it, hence you brothers frame cracking next to the weld where the material properties had changed, rather than the weld its self.
