Jake.
Right, so I've puchased a trials unicycle from "isitafox" on here. And it doesn't come with pedals, he said "I was using a pair of trialtech platforms but I think it killed the bearings in them.". So I decided to go after your expert advice, I've got two questions in mind. 1) Does it really matter if I buy standard bike pedals for it? 2) Sealed vs Unsealed, will it make a difference? Cheers if you can point me in the direction of any good pedals for trials unicycling too. (:
Andeee
To both questions it is entirely up to you especially if there is a specific pedal platform that you like. As for the sealed vs unsealed depending on how much quality you want and how long you want them to last and of course budget!. Andy
Jake.
Thanks for that . I don't have specific platform pedal I like, (well I do but they're £50+). I was thinking about these: Odyssey Twisted PC, I've read a few unicycle specs on other forums and this pedal has cropped up often. They any good? They're really cheap, £10-20. ogre
superstar pedals have a 2 year warrenty these are on sale (click the t) cant go wrong for 22quid with sealed bearings...
eddbmxdude
It depends what riding you're planning on doing. Im guessing you'll be mostly riding trials. I run 2010 Echo TR's on my trials unicycle. Quite a few people have broken them on unicycles, but mine have been ok so far. Used them for about a year and a half and the bodies are slightly bent but thats it. I'd never run plastics for trials, you need the grip for pedalgrabs. I have the twisted PCs on my 24" street setup and wouldn't use anything else now. They have decent enough grip but will grind pretty much anything Hope that helps! liam n
I don't know anything about the unicycle side but, wellgo/onza/trialtech/try all magnesium pedals are awesome platform pedals. sealed bearings last longer and they're pretty wide and very grippy. wellgo/onza/trialtech, find the cheapest as they're all the same! These? http://www.winstanleysbmx.com/product/48455/SuperStar_Alloy_Pedals Doesn't say sealed or unsealed anywhere. The magnesium pedals are nice but they're a bit out of my price range I'm afraid. Ah I heard that they lasted longer, cheers for that. Mark W
I suppose he means the catalogue-brand Superstar, rather than the original, BMX brand Superstar. Interesting how Superstar are so intent on the 'not doing anything new' route that they didn't even bother coming up with an original name... Jake.
Oh, thanks for that Mark. Ogre, are you seriously suggesting those pedals? It's got a huge gap in them, doesn't look ideal... And wow, smooth after 2yrs, nice!
Jake.
Saw these two pedals; CNC Nano Tech Flats and CNC Nano through Pin Pedals. I'm liking the look of the reviews/price of them, and I might pay that much considering how much good news they're getting from people. But I'm confused why there's 2 different pedals that look exactly the same with different colour options with different names? Would be great if anyone could shed some light on this. And Ogre, I was looking at those Ignite Pedal's you linked me, the shape really puts me off. :/

The through pins have pins that are like small allen bolts and the others have the normal grub screws like the V8's and stuff
Jake.
Ah, damn I can't make up my mind between the through pins and grub screws now. The grub screws are 50g heavier but easier to take out... What would you go for guys? They're same price.
sstein
grub screws are actually much harder to take out and break a lot easier
Jake.
Yeah, I'm trying to think whether I'll actually abuse it SO much that I'll have to replace the pins. I have more experience with caged pedals than platforms when it comes to trials.
bike_dummie
Get actual bolts I have them now on a set of specialised magnesium pedals and I still have every pin after about 5months and I'm not kind on my pedals. Where as I lost 2 grubs out of my dmr's on my fist ride on them. Plus grubs round of very easily. If your really worried about breaking pins ect only have pins on one side of the pedal and take the others out as you don't really take your feet of the pedals when riding a uni for trials, well at least I didn't anyway. Jake.
Bought a pair of CNC nano through pin pedals, decided that it's only 50g more and I can always take some pins out if I was that bothered about some weight. Cheers guys! And thanks very much Ogre who directed me to the Superstar site.
