Ash-Kennard
Just discovered this new and wonderful feature, procrastinating from revision couldn't be easier Anyways, I started with the frame, an obvious place to begin. So I troll through all the 26" frames looking for an ideal bike, and I come to realise that all the frames have horrible geometry. They are virtually all lightweight GU Typhoons with slight deviations to the head angle, wheel base and chain stays. but they are all roughly the same. Obviously the inspired frames go the opposite way completely and are not what i'm after, But where have all the midrange frames gone? Does no one tap any more? they are all around the +60 mark! and what is with all the horizontal dropouts I have always thought snail cams sucked? So this leaves two options, I am either very out of touch with geometry, riding style and features, or the tarts on bikes believe these geometries are the way forward? Ideal geometry should be around the same as the first Koxx Hydroxx, they were perfect. Opinions? Either way, does anyone know of a similar style bike builder that uses older components as well as new ones? As I would be interested as to how light my bikes could be and how much that could cost. Cheers, ash Also, does anyone happen to know the weight of the old black GU LE frame incase I can't find a bike builder. Original Hydroxx weight would be nice too. Cheers xx
Cap
The echo doesn't have snail cams and it taps like a beaut!
williams
I think it's pretty much that this is the way forward now... Im a beginner and ride 20" so I might not be that good help. There's a brand called "Marino" that let's you do 100% custom frames and you get to choose everything! BB rise, WB you name it. You might wan't to check with them? I've heard that they are quite cheap to. LInk here:http://www.marinobike.com
Ash-Kennard
it taps well with a steepish head angle, high bb and longish chainstays? that does surprise me. fair play about the dropouts though, i had missed that I think it's pretty much that this is the way forward now... onzatrip
Kennard, know exactly what you mean but im now on a +60 and taps like a machine!!! Takes a ride or 2 to get used to it but when you do its amazing!!! Something like the echo or new rockman would suit you!!
Ash-Kennard
thing is though I had the 06 control, tapped like a machine, got myself an 07 typhoon and my taps got worse as expected, had that frame for a year and never once improved my tapping. but eveything else did get better, so i do understand the benefits of high bb, but i would have thought lower than +60 would be better? onzatrip
With you gu the chainstays were a were length, they were like 375?? The long chainstays make it fell a lot more stable, when I got one I thought it was weird to begin with, i have progressed on it, everything feel easier and depending on how you like it mine is +60 and I'm running trialtech high rise stem 10mm of stackers and trialtech high rise bars and feels very balanced.
