Laurence--Trials
The only disc i have is the one pictured below, i think its a stone cutting disc, but im not sure. Would it be okay to use that to grind? Looks identical to this one:
AndrewEH1
Not really, you want something like this: http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=375051 That will just cut straight through the rim! SamKidney
That will just cut straight through the rim! The dont. Ive used one a few times. Very light pressure with fast sweeps and you get suchhh a nice sharp grind.
AndrewEH1
I'm sure you could you that disc, but you are really trying to 'grind' the rim not cut it! Edited April 22, 2012 by AndrewEH1
Laurence--Trials
I've got an old rim to practice on first so no worries i guess, no harm in trying i guess. What type of disc is it?
williams
I saw it somewhere on here that a guy used a Diamond cutting disc for grinding that looked like your's, he said that it would hold grinds forever and just is the best disc... Just can't remeber the topic. Try it on a old wheel, see if it works
SamKidney
I'm sure you could you that disc, but you are really trying to 'grind' the rim not cut it! It would only cut it if you were silly enough to grind your rim holding the grinder at 90 degrees :') It just turns out like a normal grind, but better
Laurence--Trials
Sounds like win to me
isitafox
I use a cutting disc like that, works great!
Dan6061
These discs are better. Seriously though, I've heard of people using those types of disc before and they sound pretty good! I used to use pretty thin metal cutting discs with my Magura, and they did the job well too.
Laurence--Trials
I have one of those on the front, but a better one I'll give grinding a practice tomorrow then! Scairyyyyyy!
Carlperkins
Ooh f**k laurence if you really dont know what your doing ill come round and teach you, problem with that disc is that it has cutouts and i you catch it on the side of the rim it may cut a chunk out your rim, or the grinder may jump out your hand if your not holding it tight enough. Just wait till next weekend and ill show you...
ooo
Ive been using these ultra thin 0.8mm discs, Im finding it gives a really sharp grind. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Power+Tool+Accessories/Cutting+Discs/Ultra+Thin+Disc+115+x+08+x+22mm/d80/sd1750/p39737 Ive been thinking about trying those diamond ones too. Azarathal
I used a really thin metal cutting disc and it shattered
liam n
or the grinder may jump out your hand if your not holding it tight enough. haha, nice way of scaring him! Dude, that diamond disc will be fine, infact they're the best discs really. I use one (with cutouts) you can get diamond tile cutters without the cut outs, but they're more blunt. And grinding really isn't hard, just need practice! only grind in one direction (don't go over your grind backwards) take your time and be gentle. use a shallow angle too! dann2707
Thinner the better but wear goggles as if that snaps you'll be blind and shit.
Maxx
Diamond discs have never worked for me ... I don't know why ? The grind is bad with it, but with thin metal cutting disc I always have a nice grind.
Carlperkins
i think pretty much any disc would work if done properly by someone who has experience with angle grinders. as you have absoloutly no idea how to use one laurence i recommend starting off with a normal metal cutting disc & wear goggles. as dan2707 has alraidy said.. if it goes wrong its gonna be really unpleasant.
Laurence--Trials
I'm going to try on an old, cracked, unused rim before i do my current one, i'll wear goggles, overalls, hard hat, and safty boots too, i'll be sorted
Carlperkins
i hope your joking about the overalls, hardhat and boots. but i have a suspicion your not..
Laurence--Trials
I am, dont know me well enough carl I used the grinder on an old rim did okay, need a grind a steeper angle though i think. Before i carry on though i need a new grinder the old ones cable isn't great on this one.
