midi.punk
hi, a few years back i remember one of my friends using tar on his rear wheel for the pads to grip. has anyone got any information on using it? were to get it from, good/bad points? etc... cheers
Sam T
Good points : If your brake goes shit mid ride or you need that extra bit of hold its always an option. Bad points : If it rains your brake will become non existant. It makes a bloody horrible sound compared to a setup with just a grind. It looks horrible in my opinion but that doesnt really matter. Too much of it will make your brake pads stick to your rim and not release. I found that when you use it alot, like i used to, as you keep refreshing it, you get 'dead' tar which stays on your rim but doesn't actually do anything. To be perfectly honest, you dont really need it. If you spend a bit of money on some decent brakes pads, for example Heatsink, Tnn, Coust ect then it will be better. Get a decent rim, good sharp grind and a decent bleed on your brake and your away!
KurtisBrookhouse
I use tar, but I only put a little bit on. I see people covering there rims in it and then 10 minutes later doing the same thing again. I find it does help but try not to put to much on
the mysterious leemur
Only good use is for helping you get a bit more hold if your grind runs dead in a ride or it's very useful for scraping across an obstacle that is slippery to give you more grip i.e.. rails , walls , bins ect. BurlyBox
I used tar but it wasn't much use i found but i think it was just the tar. Anyway i use hairspray and that holds well. It leaves a white mark on the tyre where it's spray on but it comes off.
