Sam Song
I'll be getting a Inspired Hex soon but I'm not sure I would want the stem to be that short at 90mm, especially since I have only been doing pure trials. I would also like to use the hex for more trials than street. I do have a Trialtech Sport riser hanging around (No, not the High rise), but should I get a different bar? (Trialtech High rise? or inspired bar?) so What are your recommendations for bar/stem combo that is more trials oriented on a hex? how about 120mm x 17 stem with trialtech riser? isitafox
Ali C was only a few points off one of the top spots at the last round of the british cup on his hex and thats setup soley for street. I had a go on one the other week that had the standard 90mm trialtech stem with some trialtech high risers and it felt really nice to ride, the short stem suits the geometry really well so I think a longer one would ruin it somewhat. Having ridden pure trials before you'll probably find it really weird at first but I think it's just something you'll need to adapt your riding to suit. ogre
i was concerned about going to a little stem when i got a streety bike, after 5 years of TGS barge poles and big stems i went to the other end of the stick and got a 70x35 stem with TT high rise bars, such a lovely combination for a flicky ride, and if i'm honest i'm gapping as big, tapping almost as high, if you're getting a streety bike, commit to the idea and get the right parts that suite the build. this is on a zoot btw, and if you thihnk buying a streety bike to focus on pure trials you could be doing it wrong... Skoze
As Ogre said - if you're gonna do it, do it properly. 90x25-35 with some Trialtech high-risers is a nice kind of length if you want to maintain a bit of trials feel, but i've recently switched that out for a 70x25 Hope stem on top of a full length steerer which has made it ride so much better. Manuals a little slower (i.e. not so high so quick) and just feels great for bunny hops and 180s/ 3's which is where the fun's at. I can still hop around on it and gap it, and this is on a 24" with a 1010 wheelbase.
