Carlperkins Posted March 19, 2012 Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 ok the ends of my hope hose are freyed, should i shorten it a little? or will that just give me the same problem? if not.. how can i get rid of all the freyed bits? i tried cutters but that doesent really help much. or shall i just buy a new olive and open it up a little before putting it on? if i were to shorten it... how do i do that? big pair of cutters? Azarathal Posted March 19, 2012 Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 It's very easy to cut, the best thing that you'll have lying around is cable cutters, the kind made for gear and brake cable simply because I believe they're sharper than the cutters made for electrical cables. If you don't have a set of cable cutters there's a good chance you'll make the end of the hose worse by mullering it with the wrong tool. If you don't have cutters either get some or take the brake down to Halfords or your LBS and ask them to borrow theirs for 5 seconds. Carlperkins Posted March 19, 2012 Author Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 Carl is one of the more clued up members of this forum so i'd say to him thats very obvious, spose you're just clarifying it for others. ... yeah i got a whole garage stuffed with as many tools as you can think of, i used to run my hose through my stem so the olive was on and off every other week. the olive is a bit ugly so i've got a spanky new one on the way.. and i've used cable cutters before but they were pretty shit. ill find some sharper cutters to chop them off, i tried wrapping cellotape round it once to get the olive on but it just fell off, anyone tried electrical tape or is it too thick?
