Ankle Protection

With the sun coming back out and being able to wear leggings and short's or cut off's for riding, I'm discovering how much my pedals hurt my ankle's. I wear knee/shin guards, but they don't offer much back of the ankle protection after yesterday's ride i have quite a few scratches up my ankle from adjusting my pedals for setting off and stuff and they are quite sore.

I have some hi top trainers that i have worn i think they are better protection than the lo cut's i wear but not quite enough. Plus i seem to catch the top of them on my Magura.

Are 5tens that great and do they do women's version's? I spotted some monty shoes on ebay but they don't stock my size :( What else is out there?

Is there a proper ankle protector you can buy? Have spotted ankle braces but will they over restrict my movement?

Or do i have to continue wearing jean's and such that look spackky under my pad's and i get too hot in...?

Lucy ^_^

tarty bikes used to have a try-all ankle protector which I can't find on their site. I use them because I hit my ankles on the chainstays. the protection is more on the inside and outside of the ankle so may not help you but they do wrap around the back and the material is pretty thick. it may be worth contacting tarty bikes to see if they still have them.

Nike ankle protectors for football, £7 from sports direct.com. I've got a pair, work perfect.

You may be onto something there, will nip down and have a look tomorrow if i get chance! I do love a cheap alternative?

And do you not find the hi top's clip you maggie carl?

Five 10's are the leading shoe brand when it come to trials/street, even Danny macaskill uses them. They dont do women's styles but the five 10 freeriders would probably look quite smart. As for protection I would highly recommend 661 race braces, £15 each on Tartybikes.co.uk
