A Noble Cause; Project Freedom

Hello friends,

I wanted to inform you folks about a project that is underway called "Project Freedom" it is a joint effort being undertaken by members to build a customized wheel-chair accessible electric-bike in which the wheel-chair bound individual would be able to roll up into and go for a ride and still remain and drive from their chair. The young man is in his 20's and is forced to rely on others to ask for help to get groceries or just to get out for a ride to clear his head; we aim to build this for him and give him the freedom we all desire. How would you feel if you've never gone faster than your shoulders would allow to push you? or if you had to ask people for help before you can go anywhere? as a man, how would you feel.

So far we have raised 300$ and gathered a crew with willing volunteers who have the capability and expertise to build this. We are like minded individuals who want to help a fellow bike-enthusiast gain independence and freedom.

at this point we need more attention, more donations and if possible just simply spread the word!

It is a most worthy-cause.

Thank You!

Looks like a cool project, and I can definitely see the reasoning behind it. I don't know what stage you're at with it, but there's a few points of the design I'd question a bit. I'm not too sure what exactly it is you're trying to make, is the idea for it to mimic cycling as closely as it can? Or is it simple a mobility device, like a mobility scooter that they don't have to get out of the chair to use? What sort of speed are you wanting it to manage? Just enough to get around or enough pace to be fun in it's self?

What's the reasoning behind the forks being as they are? It seems like it might be better to just stick to a normal telescopic fork. The only reason I can see that you've uses that set-up is to bring the front wheel forwards to clear their feet, but the problem is you've ended up with little or no 'trail' in the steering, which will result in little (if any) self centreing. You'll need to either slacken out the angle of the head-tube, or move it forwards in relation to the wheel.

Sorry if those points have been brought up before, I haven't read all of all the links, so I don't mean to be patronising if it's all stuff you've heard before. Like I say, it seems like a cool project and a worthy cause.
