Skoze
Been thinking about getting on the running thing for a while, my overall fitness is generally pretty appalling and i'd quite like to sort that out... I've read over it but am still a bit curious, for wanting to build up stamina/ burn some obesity, is it always gonna be best to go for long and slow stuff? Any advice on getting started/ what to look out for/ things to do to optimise the time i'm putting in? And also, shoes again... I've got the choice of some Vans chukka boots or my mid-top Nike Mavericks which i usually ride in and approximately £0 to spend on new shoes unless it's gonna be really necessary. Do i really need all the support or will either of the above fitted right (i.e not half undone like they are when riding) be ok?
JD™
Long and slow is the fat burning side of things, so you're not going to want to just focus on that! For overall fitness, you'll really want to be doing a bit of everything. Long and slow, sprints, faster midrange runs, fartlek and interval stuff. In terms of the trainers, you'll really want to be getting something running oriented - even if you can scrape £20 for a sale pair in sports direct or something. You're likely to do yourself some damage in either of the sets you've got and I wouldn't risk the downtime and potential hatred of running!
