I'm going to hazard a guess that the end mill will give a better surface finish than a slot drill (more flutes) because you're cutting sideways into the material rather than actually slotting it Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

BUT you got the have an end/edge to give said finish before you can start! End mills aren't designed fo cutting 'holes' or 'slots' they are as you say designed for that beautiful edge.
