D Rock 45
Just a small change i would like make on my pedals is to take the square parts of that hold the reflectors on, and how do i go about it best also will it affect the strength of them. Luke Rainbird
Easiest way would likely be to either buzz them with a grinder/Dremel (depending on what'll fit) and file the edge down. If that can't be done (not got them to hand to see if it's possible) then just whip out the files, shouldn't take long. For the very minimal weight saving you'll gain from it though I wouldn't really bother - it's a very light alloy and you're likely to do more harm than good in the long run. Ali C
yeah grinder or dremmel..... ......you WILL snap them though.
Matthew_Gibson
Just trim the sides off, I did. but mine are the magnesium
Luke Rainbird
So are those? At least, I'm pretty sure there wasn't ever an alu version? As has been mentioned in another thread though, hacking the ends off saves a fair bit more weight (relatively speaking) but makes them feel like gash (and not the good type, we're talking Queen Mother in 30 years time shit all up in this biatch...) isitafox
I'd have spent an extra fiver an got some TR platforms which are lighter and I'd guess at grippier as well.
D Rock 45
Thanks for all the replys I will file them out as thats the most controled way to do it, am not after weight saving on them(tell a lie they have replaced my heavgh DMR's)by cuting the sides of them. I was going to get the echo trs but theres only a few grams between them also i got the hogs £8 cheaper of ebay so happydays.
dezmtber
i have got a set of nukeproof electrons and there great. 338g the pair no mods nukeproof pedals same weight as echo tr pedals. and i have seen that nukeproof do ti axles for there alloy pedals i just need to see if those axles fit theses pedals. best bit about these pedals is the retail at £35 a pair
Luke Rainbird
If you're not after the weight saving then I really wouldn't bother. Taking out a pretty supportive section of the pedal for no real reason seems a little bit backward...

Taking out a pretty supportive section of the pedal for no real reason seems a little bit backward... It does seem it a bit, its just that the part of the pedal i dont like. just think it would look better if it was open like the DMR style, i will give it another day or two to see if i change my mind. but i didnt see it as being that supportive compared to cutting of the side of your pedals which is what i was also suggested to do. Cap
wasnt a helpfull suggestion sorry, a hacksaw blade could do the trick but a dremmel would be best. now you know how, go and do it so we can see how long it takes until they snap

D Rock 45
sorry, a hacksaw blade could do the trick but a dremmel would be best. now you know how, go and do it so we can see how long it takes until they snap thats better but i still dont see it as loosing that much strength as am not cutting the out side of the pedal like other people have. I think i will take the hack saw blade (i dont have a junior hacksaw) of and try to cut them out an file them smooth after, and if i can get some new dremmel parts i will try that. i found an old pair of pedals with these square parts on i will have i go on them first. N.Wood
Sorry if you've explained before, but what exactly are you trying to achieve?
Mark W
i have got a set of nukeproof electrons and there great. 338g the pair no mods nukeproof pedals same weight as echo tr pedals. and i have seen that nukeproof do ti axles for there alloy pedals i just need to see if those axles fit theses pedals. best bit about these pedals is the retail at £35 a pair I'm a fan of pedals with a bit of concave to them as I find they're almost always grippier. As a result, I'm pretty put off by those Electron pedals being more of a convex shape. It just seems really backward to me - every company who makes pedals talks about the various amounts of concave they use as cupping your foot on a pedal is obviously going to be a good shout, so eliminating that seems a bit odd. All the reviews I read generally pointed out that they weren't that grippy either, so yeah, I'm sort of glad I stayed away. Got some Neutron pedals on the way though which should hopefully do the trick...
D Rock 45
Sorry if you've explained before, but what exactly are you trying to achieve? Basicly i would like to know how much strength i will loose from cutting out the square bit on my pedals, i have hightlighted with red boxses on the picture. I geuss i am kinda loosing weight but am cutting them of because i dont like the look of the square bits. Edit: i think my own post has fail abit Edited February 28, 2012 by D Rock
dezmtber
the square bits will be a part keeping it strong. once you cut them out the pedal may only last say 5-10 hits on that area. till it snaps
D Rock 45
i left them how they are after talking a knock, if i did remove them just because of looks (which i do see now its a bit daft) they would of snapped sorry if this was a waste of a topic
