casualjoe
Aluminium clogs up grinding discs. You want the grits of the disc to cut sharply into the rim and not the chunks of blunt, soft aluminium. It's therefore best to clean the disc surface on a piece of steel or stone (depending on the type of disc) after grinding approximately 1 foot of rim, exposing fresh, sharp grits again. And pull the brake less.
TommyBrew
Yeah best most important thing is to use a disk with a sharp cutting edge. Like you said it will clog up rather than wear down. Is there a specific way to grind your rim? Like opposite to rotation or anything? Surely everything makes a difference? Sam Nichols
If you spray a thick layer of lacquer over your rim after you've given it a decent grind you'll find it lasts much much longer.
CC12345678910
not heard of that before... got any idea why that works?? EDIT: how long have you been using this? and if a typical grind is sorta 1-2 months, how long does yours last? But on the other hand it could have been a miricle cure, see? internet sarcasm never really works anyways (unless it's as subtle as a slegehammer to the face)
