LukasMcNeal
Iyaaaa, quite fancy a little netbook for general facebooking, tweeting, ituning and YouTubing. Would like 2gb of ram ideally I like it to be reasonably nippy. And price is £220 maxish. Dunno where to start though theres so many! And I'd like to run W7 on it too, any recommendations? Muel
I'd go for whatever Samsung has to offer at the moment. I've had two NC10s and still got one, my Granny has an N130. I'd get an NC110 personally, as it's the only model Samsung do I can see with a semi-decent CPU. Considered a chromebook instead?
LukasMcNeal
What do you think of this Muel? Could upgrade to 2gb and get it cheaper elsewhere aswell http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-nc110-netbook-11306296-pdt.html Just realised it is a Nc110 haha! How easy to change the RAM? Muel
Yeh that one. There are issues in upgrading them to 4gb but I think it can be done. How much cheaper? Let me know where? My NC10 is on its last legs now.
LukasMcNeal
I was just looking about on ebay really, most places sell them for £230-40ish. They look pretty sweet to be fair!
Greetings
I bought an Acer Aspire One D257 a few months ago. It was f**king slow, upgraded it with 2GB RAM and a 7200rpm Seagate hard drive. Now it's quick enough for normal use as in I don't get impatient. However, the battery life has become rather awful, probably no more than 1,5h of watching videos or doing other cpu consuming tasks. Perhaps upgrading to SSD would solve this problem, I'm pretty sure the hard drive has caused the battery life to suffer. I'd recommend buying a Netbook with a higher def screen as the usual 1000x800 or whatever it is just isn't good enough. You'll struggle to use Excel, Outlook with a lot of folders and emails is a no-go since there's just not enough room on the screen to display things. edit: oh, and mine came with Windows 7 Starter, that's also a retarded sysem. For example, you can't change the desktop background. Upgraded to Home Premium. Edited February 27, 2012 by Greetings
Muel
Well it's got a dual core version of the CPU that's in mine, so with 4gb of RAM I reckon it might be usable. Mine isn't really, it's slower than my phone. I use it for listening to music now, for everything else it's pretty useless. EDIT: Netbooks use a 1024x600 screen, it's pretty much the staple of a netbook IMO. Any bigger and it's a notebook. The reason your battery life has gone to shit will be the hard drive IMO. Upgrading from 1gb to 2gb of RAM made no difference at all for me. They're not meant for running excel or outlook, it's a cheap, cheerful little computer for browsing the internet and updating your facebook. If you want something to work on you need a notebook or laptop. Edited February 27, 2012 by Muel
Simpson
I've got a Dell Latitude D430 about a yeat ago off ebay, for £120 with 2X 1GB of ram. Its slightly bigger than a netbook but imo thats a good thing! I haven't even bothered plugging my desktop in this semester, run windows 7 on it, doing my dissertation on it, running the whole microsoft office package its fricking ace. Only brought it as a facebook - youtube tool buts its useable for so much more!
