dannytrialskid
My Starnut f**ked up today, caus when I cut my steerer tube I accidently cut the star nut in half. And it decided to give in today. How do I get the star bit out? [WITHOUT USING THE STARNUT TOOL] How do I put a new one in? ghostrider88
Hammer and long m6 bolt, that´s all you need....
Revolver
Best way to get it out, get something long that fits in the steerer but not through the star nut, and hammer it out from the top. This works much better on steerer tubes that don't get narrower to the bottom. Echo steerer tubes do... Best way to get one in, put a bolt in the top and be careful. It'll straighten up a fair bit so you have a bit of a margin for putting it in wonky. You're best to straighten it up as best you can before the second star goes in. Then you can whallop it. williams
you can also take a drill, you just drill in the star nut screw hole with the sizes 6,8,10,11,12 just keep drilling and get up in size, and when you drill with the 12mm drill the whole star nut should just fell apart. and for getting it in just take something that almost have the same shape as the starnut, and just hammer gently on it. be sure to keep it straight! hope this helps! Much more easier than hammering it out
Mark W
Certain forks won't allow you to hammer them out so it may help for them, but yeah, for the most part a hammer's pretty useful.

dannytrialskid
I got the Try-All 2011 forxx and at the bottom of the forks the hole is smaller than what the diameter of the steerer tube end is. So I can't hammer it out. How else do I get it out -.- ?

ghostrider88
I'd rather get it out. How much smaller the diameter of the steerer is?because you can almost always hammer it out because the starnut can and will deform, just need to hammer it harder. I managed to do it in a pair of echo forks but it took AGES. Seriously ages. I beat it so much it ended up turning around inside the steerer tube and it came out looking pretty unusable. Matt Vandart
Much more easier than hammering it out and the spring bit is very hard. If its cut in half then just hammer it up and out from the bottom.
