Muel
I'm not sure if others find this as well, but I have all low energy tube style bulbs in my flat, they came with the flat, and they're shit. They might be low energy, but I can't see very well. I'm not blind, but I constantly feel like I'm walking at dusk. Can you still buy real bulbs? As in 100W filament ones? Even 60W ones don't seem bright enough to me. I can't find them anywhere. EDIT: No, I don't care about the environment. Greetings
I'm pretty sure it's the same in every EU country - 60W and over have been banned and their sale is illegal. You can still get 60W+ bulbs but they're classed as heating bulbs. I've got two in a terrarium and the annoying thing is that they're rather expensive and don't produce much light Hate the energy saving ones too, they make me feel like I've got eye problems. You switch them on and still can't see anything until finally after 1 minute they warm up and shine slightly better. I even bought a more powerful energy saving bulb, a 25W I think and it was so big I couldn't fit it anywhere.
Muel
Big is fine. I just find that they f**k with my eyes, especially when trying to read test on my computer monitor, I just can't focus on the screen. At work we have those big old tubey ones, which are great. They provide nice, bright, daylight-esque light.
AndrewEH1
What type of fitting do you have? LEDs are a good shout depending if you can find one that fits. I have an IKEA energy saver one in my bedroom (bayonet fitting) which is pretty good once you give it about a minute to 'warm-up'. Might be worth going to you local electrical trade supplier and see what they have in stock. Edited February 21, 2012 by AndrewEH1

There's a BnQ down the road? Guessing they're worth a shout. What wattage are your energy saving ones? No idea I'm afraid. I bought one for the bathroom the other day (it was all Tesco had) that is 11w apparantly. It's pathetic. I have to squint to see my feet in the shower. I have to squint to see my feet in the shower. I generally have to do that because I don't wear my glasses in the shower... Anyway, energy saving bulbs are something that needs money spent on them if they are to be any good - if you buy good quality ones you get good quality light, lower electricity bills and less blown bulbs. Win win win. Yea it might cost you double the Tesco job did, but if it actually provides light and lasts twice as long thats gotta be at least 4x as good.
Luke Rainbird
If you have to squint to see assorted body parts in the shower you're doing it wrong. Just sayin'

I do, because I'm so short sighted I can't see to get in or out of the shower without them. I take them off when it's cleany time though. So go to BnQ, buy decent quality 20w+ energy saving ones? forteh
I picked up 20 for 2 quid from dunelm mill about 4 years ago, got a box of 11W and 14W and both are plenty bright enough, I have had some that take ages to warm up, these dont though, pretty much the same light output from switch on. They're osram ones IIRC.

Miss-Higgy
Ikea is you best bet! Just look for a cheap fitting with led's included then maybe upgrade the bulbs? That's what we did in the hall way the moment we moved into this flat. And LED's should be fine in the post failing ikea.

Matt Vandart
I live in a hobbit hole and there is not much light. From B ac Q you can get these big globe shaped numbers, they are awesome.
