isitafox
Can anyone assist me with the above? Gonna be building up my XC bike hopefully tonight and fixing up my cousins tomorrow and having never lubed the cables up I don't know where to start! forteh
I always prefer to use proper wet lube for cables, not too much though otherwise it gets everywhere , seen me right for the last twenty years
isitafox
Cheers lads, will give them a blast with 85 then!
Luke Rainbird
Spray down the outer and either some wet lube on the inners or a little grease in your fingers and give it a really light coat (so it's effectively just oiling the inner, rather than putting so much on it can gunk up) Always gave problem/resistance-free running for me over the past 10 years or so (both trials and other riding!) LEON
Fill the outers with gt85, then cover the inners in gt85, pull lever, smile for several seconds.
murph82
are linear cables much better than standard cables? What's the actual difference in them to standard?
ghostrider88
are linear cables much better than standard cables? What's the actual difference in them to standard? They don´t flex that much as standard cable,so the brake feels more solid.
Chris Borneo
are linear cables much better than standard cables? What's the actual difference in them to standard? Linear cables still work with a tight bend in em so good if you do tailwhips or even if you just want to run an awkward cable route. Also it's easier to get a nice flat end when you cut them which gives better performance/feel. Regular slic cable is still fine in the right situation if you grind the ends flat. murph82
what's the idea behind grinding the ends? Sorry to hijack the thread!
Luke Rainbird
Nearly nobody (in the trials world at the very least) bothers. For the few quid it'll cost for a linear cable and the gains you'll get, it's the best option by far.
N.Wood
Makes them nice and flat and perpendicular to the sides, resulting in a more solid feeling brake.
murph82
Makes them nice and flat and perpendicular to the sides, resulting in a more solid feeling brake. you lost me? Perpendicular to what sides? Do linear cables offer a smoother lighter pull?
Chris Borneo
you lost me? Perpendicular to what sides? Do linear cables offer a smoother lighter pull? It's easier to explain with a picture The one on the left will not seat properly and will make the brake feel mushy. The one on the right will seat nicely and feel loads better. If you have a slic cable already it should work fine providing you have a good cable route, grind the ends and don't want to do tailwhips. If you're looking to buy a new cable it's probably worth getting a linear one. Edited February 20, 2012 by Chris Borneo
murph82
oh got you! Thought you meant the inner part of the cable!
